I bought the Boscon DVD Writer to replace my old one from a 'big name' manufacturer, which had suddenly stopped working at all with my MacBook Pro. No harm to it - it was old and the manufacturer has long since stopped supporting it with software/firmware updates. Total honesty here - the Boscon was not my first choice for a replacement. I did order another one from an equally 'big name' manufacturer, but the seller cancelled my order for some inexplicable reason - their loss. After researching similar products, I found there were many listed, which claimed to work with the MacOS system, but reviews suggested many problems. I finally found this one, which the reviews seemed to validate that the device worked well with the Mac system. I must admit, however, that some reviews were not so complimentary in some respects about the Boscon, and I was worried about trusting a brand unknown to me up to this point. Well I can say that I have no worries now. The Boscon DVD Writer worked with my MacBook Pro immediately on connection. The laptop recognised the disc writer without any issues. The device performed quickly and flawlessly to write a DVD with a one-hour video recording and the disc ejected automatically at the end of the writing process, so my initial concern that the lack of an Eject button on the device might be a problem was groundless. I have also since used the device to play back movies, which it does equally flawlessly, and the Mac allows me to eject the disc using the Finder application, so no issues there either. In summary then, I am very happy with this Boscon DVD Writer. It looks quite attractive sitting next to the laptop. The silver cabinet almost matches the colour of the laptop, which is a bonus. Also I don't have any issue with the length of the cord that links the device to the laptop as some reviewers have commented about. It's quite short for sure, but it didn't cause me any problems. It feels quite sturdily built overall, and the disc mechanism seems to be robust in operation too. For this price, the Boscon is a bargain. I would happily recommend it to others. Inevitably some reviewers will find fault with anything, but honestly, I've had no issues with it up till now, and long may that continue.

Obviously more unreliable no quality control junk. From the start this does not write anything at any speed on any brand of disk, all it did was make a lot of coasters for my coffee. Although it reads fine and plays music and data. Tried on other PC's. Not recommended at all. You'll be better off paying for a known branded name.

Very easy to use: works so fast, plugs in and out smoothly, appropriate weight as well as comes with lovely bag. The price is so cheap compared with other brands.

Great piece of kit and comes with its own transportation case and adapter.

get one where the tray pops out. 2nd type of dvd player like this. old one was 5 years old before having issue thought it was just wear. This version 2nd dvd and im left with the Plug out plug in method to get it to recognise theres a dvd in there so i can eject. that or break it apart to get dvd out. No way of force ejecting means you are at liberty to if it wants to work or not. Spins up like its going to do something and can see inside disc spin, but 3 computers not recognising its there and nothing you can do to get disc out

I'll give this External CD DVD Drive 5 stars, and pray to the Gadget Gods that it remains reliable. Because first impressions are very good. It has a nice weight to it, the build quality of what I can see is good. It is primary USB-C, with a USB-A adapter, and the cable is fixed, so no cable to lose. The carry case is of a similar good quality. The loading/unloading of the discs is smooth, and I even like the fact that there is no exterior eject button or lights, as it makes the whole unit look very sleek, modern and 'Apple-like'. The laptop detected it without issue, and the read/write speeds are perfectly acceptable. As long as it remains reliable, I really cannot see a downside.

Absolutely useless going to have a cd rescued not compatible at all and it's virtually impossible to get vlc app needed to run as allegedly free to download hijacked by all and sundry not worth one star I wanted to put zero but app won't let me

Nada recomendable, mejor comprar la original. Lo he usado dos veces, ni más ni menos. La primera vez genial, la segunda vez se quedaba bloqueado y no expulsaba el cd. De hecho, tras varios intentos No he conseguido sacar el cd introducido...A veces lo barato sale caro.

Acheté comme lecteur d'appoint. Il a été utilisé moins de 10 fois depuis l'achat. Et lors de la dernière utilisation, impossible de lire le DVD. Mais surtout impossible de le sortir du lecteur qui n'offre pas cette solution de secours (pas de bouton d'éjection présent). Il ne reste plus qu'à ouvrir le lecteur. Mais celui-ci bloque la sortie accidentelle du DVD par une languette métallique qu'il faut casser. Et bien sûr cela endommage le carter métallique ainsi que le circuit imprimé. Une vraie M.... à fuir !
