Hello I purchased this radio a few months ago It comes with a mains I just plugged it in and enjoyed the radio

Q: How loud is it? - needed for the kitchen to play over the general noise of kettles, running taps etc.

Ours is used all over the house including the kitchen and the sound in fine

it looks for stations when you turn dail when you find what looking for press dial down it will select that station

Q: Can radio be mains operated

Yes , the radio can be battery or mains operated...it comes with mains lead and plug .
