Yes, programing can be tedious. Take your time, be patient with the directions and yourself. If you choose mode 53 (DIY), make sure you turn OFF the other two modes. Being able to ramp up and down the intensity (& color) on a schedule is a feature i've wanted for years. I went for a gentle warm white fade up in the morning, then a couple of hours a bright white mid-day, and a progressively more red shift as the fadeout works into the evening, finishing the cycle with a couple of hours of 10% blue-only before going off completely just before midnight. The quantity & quality of light is truly amazing for fresh water. I haven't had a salt tank in years, I can't really speak to its blue output being appropriate to make a salt tank have that gorgeous blue/uv pop!. This IS a wonderfully flexible fixture for the cost. We shall see how well its holds up longterm. The only two 'Cons' I see so far, the shortest of hiccup in the power will clear the clock setting, it holds the programing, but not the time. Makes me ponder putting a very small computer style UPs on the aquarium. Lastly, the brackets holding the light over the tank make me a tiny bit uneasy, if younger children interact with tank, or if you live in an earthquake prone area, in just my opinion, its possible the fixture could end up falling into the tank. Perhaps its not meant to be used on an open-top tank, that said, I may put a piece of plate glass under the light. Both of these topics are mentioned in the instructions. In short, for the money, its such an amazing light! ..even for uses beyond an aquarium. I am very pleased with the purchase.

This is my favorite aquarium light. I have bought three so far and what I really like about it is the programming I have had other lights that you know you can kind of program to 12 hour length of time, but then it becomes kind of randomized as the 12 hours kind of overlap anyway hard to explain. This one you said it to what time you want to turn on what strength you want the light to be what time you want to turn off what time you want the moonlighting to turn on how strong you want that to be and it’s slowly turns on slowly turns off And then you never have to touch it again. It’s awesome. I like that. It’s full spectrum to help my plants. It’s very high-quality pretty easy to understand the first time I tried to program my light. I kind of stumbled through it for a little bit, but I’m on my third go now and it’s good. One thing that’s nice is if you unplug the power source and then plug it back in it does not erase what you programmed

I love this light. I would've given it 5 stars if I could choose my morning time light color but it defaults to white light. I love that I could choose any color for the evening time on the settings. Amazing price. Easy to use

Started to get back into my old aquarium with my kiddos and have been doing a lot of research for various items that I need to buy. I needed a new light fixture and in my typical Amazon shopping technique, I'd always filter products that are shipped by and sold by Amazon, to alleviate typical angst with low quality products that usually never meet my expectations. Between various youtube reviews and consulting fakespot, I arrived on hygger. Figuring it had free returns, I didn't have anything to lose if I wasn't initially satisfied. I opted for this particular one as it provided more granular control over the 24 hour light cycle (some would consider that a negative as it adds complexity, but it really wasn't that bad to set up at all). The brightness and array of colors fit my need for my 10 gal tank. I appreciate the thin design to avoid as much clunky objects that detract from the aquarium experience. I personally like having the controls on the wire instead of on top of the led light itself, like other hygger models have - my tank sits higher than normal and would constantly require a step stool to use. For the money spent and the value received, at this early point (only had it for a few days), I consider this an overwhelming win. Granted, time will tell how durable it is - I'll try to make the effort to report back if I encounter any issues in the short run. My only complaint, albeit a very minor one, I don't particularly like how the led light on the wire control never turns off. I would have thought a simple 10-15 second timeout when there are no key presses could have easily been incorporated.
