Perfect to secure the door of a lean to
we have a lean to at the side of the house which we use as a store room for bikes etc. This lock was perfect for the door which we wanted to make sure was secure. It was very easy to fit and can be used on either left of right hanging doors. The quality of the lock is excellent, made of brass and steel and is very sturdy indeed. The kit includes good instructions and all the screws needed to fit. It even has a nice brass bezel for the exposed part of the lock, making a very neat fit.

Great for locking and unlocking a gate from either side
This lock is very well constructed and seems solid. The bolt mechanism glides smoothly from lock to unlock. The keys are cut perfectly. Make sure you have a 26 mm spade bit, and installation will be a breeze. All other required hardware is included. When installing, it is worth positioning the lock with the bolt already extended in the lock position. I made the mistake of positioning it with the bolt unlocked. I ended up installing the lock so close to the gate post that the bolt just barely extended to the lock position before hitting the brick wall that holds the post. If I had put the lock even a millimeter closer to the edge of the gate, I wouldn't have been able to fully extend the bolt or extract the key.Another mistake I made was not realising that these throw locks come in different lengths. I first found the lock that was 70 mm, measured my gate and confirmed that was the right size for the thickness of my gate. But I didn't order it right away. Later, I saw this 50 mm lock and got excited that the price was much lower than what I had remembered. Only after installing it did I realise that this lock didn't quite protrude all the way to the opposite face of the gate! I just hadn't realised that different sizes existed and assumed I was looking at the same lock. Still works. The keyhole is just "protected" by a wooden surround now. :-)Really like this product. Love that I can unlock my gate from either side now and keep the gate secured.

Excellent lock for a Garden Gate
This lock is really well made and comes with 5 keys. Also provided is a template so you can get your lock in the exact position and a flat wood drill to drill the hole. This lock can be fitted to left or right hand opening gates, just make sure you use the correct template for your situation.I attached a piece of wood on the inside of the gate to take the lock but you could use the existing timber on the gate.Ideally the total thickness of the wood should be 48mm because the Escutcheon is about 2mm. If the thickness of the timber is less the barrel will stick out a little from the Escutcheon but that wouldn't be a problem and the lock would still be secure. You can buy security screws to secure the Lock and Keep but it seems pointless as someone would have to be on the inside of the gate to remove the lock. After fitting I gave it a spray in WD40 and will probably do the same in 12 months time to keep it in perfect condition.

Good, solid dual-sided lock. Could do with a bit more weatherproofing (in my case)
A really solid lock which you can open from both sides of the door - exactly what we needed for our back garden door which leads into an alley. One star deducted purely because it would be more weatherproof (and it is meant to be an outdoors lock - at least partially, due to the dual aspect of the lock) if there was some sort of flap to cover the key entry points, protecting them from water entry. Mine has started rusting already, after 3 weeks of fitting, but I do live on the coast so that is more normal than it sounds. Otherwise, really good - it feels secure.

Great for price
These are fitted to a 6 foot tall and 8 foot wide set of gates. They are chunky and basic but work extremely well .You get enough keys to give out or keep spares and the locks work well.Give them a light oiling on the sliding bars and they will last many years .Easy to fit with basic tools, I had a friend drill out the lock barrel hole.Well worth the price , hope this helps

Simple AND clever!
A wonderful piece of kit.It moves like something you'd expect to find on the front of a castle, or something!Easy to fit (remember the 26mm drill bit!) and looks the part. The other really good thing is the way the key pops out slightly when you lock it: this allows a key to be inserted from the other side!I'm now looking for other places I could use these wonderful locks....

Probably the best gate lock
A great lock. This double-locking version is key-operated on both sides of the gate. Seems very robust and, despite reports elsewhere, you CAN get additional keys cut. Fitting needs plenty of thought and preparation though. The key can't be removed mid-turn, so the lock has to be in a position that allows the bolt to extend fully. You also have to be careful to position the lock so the hole for the barrel doesn't damage the joints holding the gate together. The manufacturer sells a 28mm drill bit to fit this lock but the instructions advise use of a 26mm bit! In reality a 26mm hole might do the job but the hole would need to be precisely at 90 degrees to the surface of the gate and there would be little leeway on positioning. We used a Draper 28mm bit, which was fine. The bezel covers the hole on the 'outside' of the gate, making for a very neat job.

Sturdy gate lock.
Sturdy gate lock, 5 keys supplied so plenty for all the family. Good clear instructions with a template guide for mounting either left or right hand on gate. Supplied with the correct sized drill bit required to drill hole for the lock barell.Used the 50mm size on a 45mm thick gate and only minimum amount of the barrel protrudes through the other side. The sliding bolt looks very secure, comes with M8 size screws for the lock mechanism. The screws for the barell surround on the other side are very small but this is only to hold the surround, but I do think they could be a bit bigger.Best of all the wife's happy with how it looks more secure than before. Will try and add more photos.
