A Silent Voice - Standard Blu-Ray

As I've been hearing, this Film is definitely on par with YOUR NAME for the best Anime Film of the year.Based on a 7 Volume Manga the story follows the Teenage growth a girl who's Deaf, and boy who bullies others for "fun" (As do others in the class) But one day it goes too far and he becomes the centre of attention for persecution and grows up with this remorse becoming an introvert.The film covers him coming to terms with his past and learning to be social again.For those after a Similar narrative the infamous Clannad (Inc After Story) is a good comparison.NOTE: The Manga features more events than the film and surpasses the ending but the film covers most of the important basesAlso the Blu Ray Production run had a number of copies with a broken disk clasp (I've seen 9 so far, which seems to a production error) Fortunately a Replacement was sent and is fine

There was a bit of trouble getting the item to me BUT this will be more about the movie and whether or not you should get it. ABSOLUTELY. I've only encountered this movie via commentaries as I was more intent on watching 'Your name' (another excellent movie) but I decided to purchase this blue-ray to give the movie a go. And it blew me away. It is such a touching story and very much a character analysis with a decently sized cast of characters brimming with personality, each one with their own take on life, insecurities and regrets. This movie was able to capture the pain and difficulty of not only someone struggling with a physical impairment but also mental ones. The movie has a very true to life grasp on depression and how one tries to cope with it. Honestly, a genuinely​ wonderful movie that is well worth your money, time and tears.

There are many other places I would have liked for the story to go but, in spite of some immersion breaking or melodramatic moments, the overall experience is impactful and engaging. Have rarely cared more for characters.Soundtrack and artwork are excellent.Both the dub and the sub are extremely high quality from a voice acting perspective. While I almost exclusively watch in sub format, this one is far better dubbed imo. The voice direction is on point and weighting feels more appropriate in parts. Localisation is done really well and some scenes that were originally jarring due to "anime-isms" or cultural differences are adapted extremely well.

I know the movie would be amazing to see if you also read the manga. I ordered it hoping I would be able to watch it. Unfortunately I was not aware of region lock for blue ray players around the world since I live in the United States. I don’t want to leave a one start just because of this inconvenience but I would be nice if I said in the description if it was region locked or not. Though I guess I should have researched about blue ray movies from the UK

Let's get right into it, this film has several flaws, and while it would take major spoilers to explain, certain actions come across as shallow and poorly justified as the motivations for those actions have been left out of the film. The problem is that at 2hrs they were cutting things out to avoid the film having a much longer running time but that meant certain key elements were lost.What this film does then is introduce you to this piece of work and inspire you to read the manga.So the positives are that it is well made, with great animation, and a solid soundtrack, and even if it lacks the depth and nuance of the manga it hits the right notes and achieves what it wanted to do.In closing, just because I score it 4/5 that doesn't mean it's not worth watching, this is still a very good film, I just don't feel it's equal to some of the best anime films that are out there, equally so, I rate it higher than quite a few other anime films I've seen.The score I gave this on MAL is 9/10 and if I would have given it 4.5 on here I would have.

If you want lots of action and to turn your brain off then this is NOT the movie you are looking for.This is more a thought provoking piece about communicating, bullying and self worth and it is very uniquely animated to show how lonely someone can be made to feel and how a group of people can react to both delude and excuse themselves in regards to bullying an individual.
