Review: Required Reading. It Got Me The Job. - This book got me my new job. My friend too. This year I've had 3 job interviews for jobs I have lots of experience in. The first 2 I was told I interviewed well but didn't get an offer. After that I found and read this book & practiced my answers to the questions every day (I wrote each question on a blank playing card and carried them around - see image). I applied for a third job and literally 2hrs after the interview they called to offer me the job. During the interview the interviewers couldn't help themselves and kept saying things like "wow excellent answer". I have never in all my life had such a positive experience at a job interview. It would be easy to think maybe the 3rd job was just a better fit. But it wasn't. All 3 jobs I applied for this year were within my profession, all similar roles and actually with the same organisation. A friend of mine also used this book to prep for his interview. He got the job too. Considering he hasn't been able to get a new job in 5yrs thats significant. As a result I think this book should be required reading and handed to kids leaving school or college even. You don't have to read it all either. I only studied the "fateful 15" questions and the competency based questions I felt would be relevant to the roles I was applying for. Two takeaways stand out for me: #1: the idea that a "job interview can be a single moment of life changing destiny". The author goes on to explain that a successful job interview can determine things like where you live, how much you make, what you do all day, your partner, your hobbies etc etc. I had never thought about it like that. #2: there are questions where the interviewer asks one thing but what they want to hear is slightly different. The author goes into this in the book and gives guidance on how to deal with these. Be warned: there are no canned answers in the book. Just plenty of guidance on how to communicate your pre-existing skills & experience in a way that maximises it's appeal to employers. Highly highly highly recommended. Review: Quite an interesting and useful book. - The book contains a lot of useful information that helped me more than once when preparing for an interview. Many of the questions from this book actually came up to me during interviews. I learned quite a lot for myself, and after reading the book I looked at some questions from a completely different angle. I recommend reading it to anyone who is actively looking for a job.

Quite an interesting and useful book.
The book contains a lot of useful information that helped me more than once when preparing for an interview. Many of the questions from this book actually came up to me during interviews. Gave me confidence!
I had my first interview since graduating university a couple weeks ago, and am still waiting to hear about results. However, this book helped to prepare me immensely. The questions the interviewer asked me where what I expected, and I felt I was able to answer them. I have another interview this week for a similar position, and will be using the same techniques I learned from this book. Update: I received a tentative job offer from one of my interviews, and accepted the offer! I am now waiting for background checks to be completed before I can get an official start date. I feel this book is a wonderful resource to read before an interview, and helped give me the edge to get ahead. The interviewer said he had other people to interview, but something about me must've stuck out, and I owe a lot of it to this book.

It's all very well guessing the questions but the really useful bit is the explanations as to why the question ...
I bought this for my grandson who is currently applying for apprenticeships. I know he won't read it but it is very readable for the family when we prep him for the interview. It's all very well guessing the questions but the really useful bit is the explanations as to why the question is asked and the answer the interviewer is looking for. Well worth having as preparation for your children going through their first job interviews and as advice for what they should have answered in certain cases so that they keep on improving until they get the dream job. It's written for adults with experience of work and looking for promotion but it can be adapted for young people going for their first interview. It's also useful for people new to interviewing and looking for ideas of key questions to ask.

It's OK
Gives an incite towards what the interviewer is looking for with those seemingly ridiculous questions but the examples are geared towards jobs in the HR / Finance / upper management fields and the example response do not transfer easily towards more technical / engineering sectors. The book does help with interviews for any field but a lot more thought and effort needs to be put in to make it work in fields other than the roles in the examples.

Used for interview
Bought for ideas for a few interviews I had coming up. It gave me some ideas of questions I’d not thought of, which helped at the interviews. It also helped with how to structure responses to questions. I was successful at the interview, so clearly something worked well

Best book ever for the job interview

After reading several books on the job interview subject, from the "list of phrases to use" to the "replies to the usual questions"... I think that this is by far the best. It accomplishes what it promotes in the title: help you prepare for anything you can find in an interview. Not to be dishonest with yourself and the interviewer doing so. And don't let you be pushed back by any disrespectful recruiter.

Very good book. A friend recommended this to me and I am so happy I bought it. Concise, clear and practical. I used it extensively while preparing for my interviews. Highly recommended for anyone planning on cracking an interview with elan!
