PORTER-CABLE Dovetail Jig with Mini Template Kit (4216),Gray

I researched a lot of dovetail jigs and settled on this one. Very glad I did. If you follow the instruction booklet it is very simple to cut perfect dovetails, looks daunting to start with but just makes sense eventually. I purchased the 4216 kit because it came with all the templates I could ever need and included the router bits. Look on you tube there are some great videos on how to set it up and make fine adjustments. Well worth the money for accuracy and quality. Be careful, there are some copies on line made in China, avoid them and buy the original, you won't regret it.

This super jig comes with enough combs to make just about any joint type, with both 1/2" and 1/4" pins etc. Takes a little while to get to grips with its set-up. but once learnt its actually straightforward and easy. After one hour of initial practice I'm now cutting 200mm wide joints right first time. Excellent value for money even with import duties as it comes with all combs, guides and 4 TCT cutters. Well made and sturdy. I added the Leigh VRS1200 vacuum and router support for this jig, which is well worth the extra.

This jig is the most versatile and accurate dovetailer I have ever used. Lots of instruction available on utube.

Great piece of kit, like the 3 combs especially the mini 1/4 inch. From order to delivery only took 3 weeks with no issues from America. Have not used yet but the build quality appears first rate. Would definitely recommend as comes with imperial router bits for 1/2 and 1/4 inch shanks and Bush guides. Packaging is very good and arrived with absolutely no damage.

Good quality dovetail jig, well made and accurate. Written instructions not 100% clear but good YouTube videos available on line.

Almost everything has been considered and allowed for on this jig. It still needs some thought and patience to get things just right but is easily do-able after practice. My only problem was wanting to add dovetails to a shelving unit but the sides were too long to fit between the floor and the bottom of the jig. The unit is more suitable for drawers which would easily fit the available space. It brings dovetail joints into scope for those who don't want to spend hours sharpening and using chisels. Note that the standard size dovetails need a router with a half inch collet. Only the miniature dovetails use quarter inch.

Qality product, a litle big price

I bought this jig after pouring over You Tube vids and other web comparisons/reviews for dovetail jigs or a few hours. It took a while to set up but within a couple of hours of fooling with scrap materials I was able to produce good quality joinery. Like anything else, with a bit more practice, I am sure I can do top notch work with this jig. It functions exactly as described. The manual that comes with it is not perfect, but certainly covers the basic functions of the jig; other user videos found online were very helpful and actual hands on use was not at all intimidating. I am very pleased with the work I can turn out and would recommend getting the other templates at the time of purchase as they are a bit more affordable that way than purchasing them separately later on.
