Choose Your Own Adventure 6- Book Boxed Set #1 (the Abominable Snowman, Journey Under the Sea, Space and Beyond, the Lost Jewels of Nabooti, Mystery of the Maya, House of Danger)

Currently introducing these to a 7 year old, fantastic little books, but be warned some of them were written in the 70's and 80's, so expect them to be a little unsuitable for the suggested age range, "The mystery of the Maya" opens with a dream about the narrators friend having his throat cut for example, and all of them have endings where the narrator dies, there is no gore or anything but it may be worth noting before buying.Each book essentially contains several short stories, some longer than others, some can become a bit nonsensical as you navigate the different decisions. The nature of the novelty is that the wrap ups can be very Short and unsatisfying. "The House of Danger" has been the biggest hit from this batch, We have read it 6 times and each one has been a completely different adventure.

Like the other reviewers here I too bought this for a little one (12). So I will try not to repeat what they have already mentioned.Having had one or two of these as child I was shocked and delighted when I came across them. First things first these books are fantastic for getting children to read more. And by playing along with them you can spend some quality time together and help imrpove their vocabulary at the same time. Some of the books also have some side puzzles that can be solved on the internet which adds an extra dimension that to be honest I probably enjoyed more than they did. For example you might get a link to a site that shows a picture of the haunted house you are in, that picture then reveals clues, which can help guide you down the correct path. These are not essential to do but again do add an extra dimension to the book and at the risk of sounding repetitive are also a fantastic way of getting younger kids or the whole family involved.I highly recommend these books. My 9yo daughter really enjoyed these. Would be good if books were a bit bigger and took longer to complete.

Bought for my two children and have ended up revisiting my youth and enjoying the multitude of endings in these books! Great to get your children off their screens and into a book. Nothing like choosing your own adventure to influence children (especially reluctant boys) to read more!

I bought them as a present for my nephew as I remember they were good fun to read while I was growing up, to my surprise they look vintage! very cool

These books were recommended by a Speech Therapist to help a boy with Aspergers who finds imagining different scenarios quite difficult. Although he finds reading them difficult because he is also dyslexic, his mum reads them to him and they talk about the different options.The illustrations on the front could probably do with updating...

The idea is still one I think stands the test of time — kids love being in control of the story. Unfortunately, these stories are a little stale for kids today. Still, the nostalgia factor is fun for me. Someone should do some updated versions.

Me encantaron los libros, mis hijos están entusiasmados incluso sus amigos les piden leerlos juntos. Muy buena compra. Vamos haciendo turnos eligiendo distintas aventuras y nos lo pasamos genial, es incluso una buena oportunidad para pasar tiempo en familia. Encantada!!!!!

My wife and I were discussing book choices for our 7 year old son who reads a little above his grade level and how hard it was to find books that weren't terrible and that he would be interested in. I reminisced about my old Choose Your Own Adventure titles and decided to see if they were still around or if I could find an old copy. I was happy to see that not only are they still around, but the author reworked them in 2005/06 to update the content to be more with the times and therefore relatable to young readers (internet, cell phones, etc).Amazon Prime (Canada) had them shipped out within the two days and my son dug right into his first book. He loved the concept and enjoys going through the story choosing different paths to see the different outcomes. The reading level is just the right challenge for his reading ability (grade 3/4-ish)and the stories are compelling enough that he will sometimes read over playing a video game when given a choice.This series is worth the cost given that the books have 10-30 endings and can take a while to read through and they keep the child engaged.
