After the death of her father, Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) devotes her life to science. Convinced of the existence of extra-terrestrial life, she uses satellites to sweep the stars for evidence. When she receives the transmission of what seems to be a blueprint from another species for the construction of a spacecraft, she has to fight for the right to lead the ship's maiden flight to meet the alien life forms. She finds herself working with her former lover, ex-priest Palmer Joss (Michael McConaughey), now a governmental advisor. Review: A perfect film - An excellent film with a terrific central performance from Jodie Foster. I watch this film each year, and have done so since 1997. A sci-fi classic Review: Worth the watch - Great film and stays reasonably close to the fabulous story written by Carl Sagan

Underrated masterpiece.
Contact is a beautiful, thoughtful movie. So intelligently scripted, directed and acted. Carl Sagan’s novel is thought provoking, questioning the meaning of life in such a way that, though not providing answers, does not really let you down either. Whilst the movie loses the wonderful concept of Ellie finding an intelligent message in her calculation of Pi, it still leaves you with a feeling of amazement at the universe, and the nature of being. The conflict of faith and science is intelligently and fairly dealt with in a way which leaves both sides of the argument room to explore. Ellie’s realisation which questions her certainty that “faith” is unscientific and hence invalid, is shattering. This really is a greatly underrated movie which would appeal to many people who might not normally watch science fiction. Jodie Foster’s performance is amazing. I cannot believe that she was overlooked for any Oscar mention for this. It is a tour de force. She is well balanced by Matthew McConaughey as an edgy, forward thinking priest. This is a beautiful blu ray presentation. I have watched it many times and the film always leaves me uplifted.

A classic - but funny how things age with time.
I first saw this in a cinema in the USA which had just been done up with a new digital sound system, and I was blown away by the first 5 minutes. So were some of the rest of the audience who actually applauded the opening scene - I think it must be an American thing to applaud in cinemas! I bought it on Blu-Ray, pumped up my amplifier, the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up having not seen it for 15 years and... well, I don't know what I was thinking, but it wasn't how I remember it! From the look of other reviews, this is clearly the superior version compared to other transfers, but there was still a little unsteadiness and it didn't looks as HD as I expected. That said, it's still a unique film, but come on Jodie - we know you're OK to go, just get on a go! For low the price it's currently available for, it's probably a good one to have in the collection.

Outer World
Something that will keep you in mobile for an entire movie. Yes the story and cast did a marvelous performance in this science fiction thriller. It's unbelievably realistic that you seem to explore your own inner senses. Nothing to compare this to as other movies go, being interesting as to keeping you holding onto every word. Now if that doesn't move you, than nothing will. I rated this an A grade plus for pure delight of entertainment that keeps you riveted to the chair not wanting to move. No more hints as to spoil this movie it's not horror but unusual is more like it. So before you begin grab the munchies pull up the chair get comfortable for a fabulous night of grand entertainment. Enjoy!

( My God it's full of stars ! Grandiose. A voir en VO ! Pas en doublée svp.
