Q: Can this foam be cut using a pattern template in the shape of a rifle with a scope? I'm looking to use this in a weapons drawer in a police unit

Absolutely. It's not easy though. The first challenge is getting the silhouette right and cutting it at a consistent depth with a stady hand. The next challenge of kaizen foam is digging out the layers to the correct / consistent depth. I've ordered four sheets now and used them successfully but it's awkward and challenging to get it perfect. Lots of great videos on YouTube, including several of guns and rifles. Just search kaizen foam.

Q: Can I use a hot knife to cut this foam?

Hello George,You can use a hot wire cutter with Kaizen foam, so I imagine you could be able to use a hot knife too. We haven't tried it, though, so we can't guarantee it. Hope that helps!

Q: Is it possible to split a 2-1/4"sheet and form two 1-1/8" sheets of this material?

In my experience I would say yes! But I won't be the cleanest split. Take your time and plan on using the two sides that were formed from the split as the underside of the two pieces as they won't be the best looking.

Fantastic stuff, good for tools

Fantastic stuff, good for tools, board games or whatever you can think of.I would say there is a certain art to using it well (look up how people have used it on youtube for an idea) and stranger shapes will be time consuming to cut well, but overall there is nothing else out there in this price bracket that gives such a good result.

Really nice, but the layers are not easy to be separated

The material is really easy to cut and makes much sense that you can peel off the layers to create the depth you need. However, the layers between them are glued together and it is not hard to create a nice flat surface. Still, this foam made my life a lot easier

Poor quality product

The bond between the layers was too strong so they wouldn't separate at all.
