Casio fx-991EX Classwiz for High School Students

Bought this for my son doing GCSE maths- and he will be doing maths at a level- so bought this rather than a cheaper one and then having to buy another one when he gets to a level. So many functions and you can print out instructions for the complicated actions from the website. Very solid and good quality.

A great accompaniment to the calculator my son's school told us to get for his maths A Level. I'm not convinced that most maths teachers spend time explaining how capable modern calculators are, and the instruction manual that comes with the calculator is pretty perfunctory, so a more detailed step by step guide like this is super helpful in illustrating what's possible.

Really good except daughter is doing Further Maths and there are a couple of functions not included - inverse poisson and chi squared. Absolutely perfect for the Maths A Level though and this is the preferred calculator when these functions are not needed as its simpler to use.

Getling clearly knows his stuff and, although he's a little dismissive of us tightwads who haven't invested >£100 in a TI-Nspire CX, I'm pleased that he rates the FX-991EX Classwiz highly enough to have written this book. He presents clear, keystroke-by-keystroke examples for the advanced functions of this calculator. You may sometimes be left wondering precisely why you performed the exact sequence of keystrokes. The answer usually--though not always--appears within a page or so. Knowledge of the mathematics is justifiably assumed: this is not a maths tuition book. Some aspects of the statistics section left me scratching my head, so I'll be looking to refresh my knowledge thereon. All told, a very worthwhile purchase. I've saved enough time by reading this book instead of the user manual that the book has already paid for itself.

The author does a great job of summarising the functions and menu options on the fx-991EX. His examples give key-by-key instructions to go along with the many examples. As you go through some examples you might want to note which option or selection is being made because many are selected by using a number key, so the sequence of numbers doesn't make sense if you don't note which menu option you are selecting.

Casio has put together what has to be the best scientific calculator on the market* with the fx-991EX Classwiz, and Mr. David Getling has put together a manual that covers the more significant features of that calculator. In his examples, Mr. Getling shows screens and key sequences along with his down-to-Earth explanations.
