RØDE X XCM-50 Professional USB Condenser Microphone and Virtual Mixing Solution For Streamers and Gamers

I have a number of Rode products for film work, this was for gaming on the PC. Everyone commented on the vastly improved volume and quality compared to an expensive headset. Optional software if you need to control sources for different applications.

A very nice fairly compact USB condenser microphone. The sound quality is excellent and you don’t have to be directly in front of it or very close to get a good sound. That does mean that it can pick up background noise or room echo but the in built DSP seems to remove much of that. The monitor output is good and there is a physical volume control but there is no balance between the microphone monitor and the USB sound so you have to adjust for the mic level and use the computer for the USB level. The software that Rode supplies is good and easy to use and allows adjusting the settings of the DSP as well the main features of each application (streaming, podcasting etc). Although not designed for use with a phone I found that it works well with my iPhone 16 and I’ve used it for the sound source when recording videos. For a little over £60 it’s well worth it.

Beautiful sound, very sensitive, robustly made and very good looking - but less flattering and forgiving than a dynamic mic like the Shure MV7. Definitely needs a pop filter if using for voice in close proximity. I found the software features are brilliant and the settings/processing happens on the mic even when not used with the software - but the software also adds loads of virtual inputs and outputs which are a pain to navigate when you just want your earphones to work for a work Teams call.

Exceeds my expectations. Perfect for an easy carry when travelling for those quick, short but urgent VO jobs. Not fill studio quality because of recording spaces but pretty close!! Well worth the money!

RODE have a name for quality microphones. Back in the day, the XCM-50 was far more expensive. It comes with a free download of mixing software that accesses the DSP inside the microphone, providing a compressor, filtering, low frequency voice enhancement, aural exciter, plus you can mix in music and other sound sources. It has a separate, sturdy two-height microphone stand that sits below the camera vision field, as you can see from my attached photo. There is also a 3 metre USB-C cable to connect the camera, and an extension cable for headphone monitoring from the output of the microphone DSP. The red knob at the front adjusts headphone volume and, acts a microphone mute. All the components are sturdy and, weighty enough to be stable. Distance from your mouth is recommended as 100mm to 200mm It can be used without the software and connected into Windows. However, the RODE software is useful, but the YouTube guides can be confusing. I could not incorporate Teams and Zooms into the software mixer, so I set the XCM-50 as a chat channel, then used the chat output into Teams or Zoom.

Its not bad, it was cheap for £50. What an omision though to not have and eq, an EQ would have pushed this up to 4 stars. I appreaciate the price, but it just feels like they realy missed something with no EQ.

本体が小さく、机に置いても邪魔になりません。オーディオインターフェースも必要がないので配線もごちゃごちゃしないのが便利。音質的にも特別いいわけではないけど、安定した音で運用できます。ノイズはかなり少ないかと思います。１点残念なのは付属のUnifyというソフトがMacに対応していないことです。 本領を発揮させるにはWindowsで使うことをオススメします。
