The smell of childhood and running to mum with a bump or scrape!
This is a very strong scented oil that many will recognise from childhood and either love or hate, I personally love the smell. As for its effectiveness it is very effective but be warned this contains the salicylic acid better known as aspirin and in concentrations greater than you find in the tablets at around 40 tablets worth per 5ml so overuse is easily done! Never use more than 3 or 4 drops and do not use on children given the risks associated with aspirin. That aside back to the scent you will see complaints about it smelling like TCP as some have described well this is because wintergreen is used as the base for many over the counter and prescription medications and creams the most recognisable being germaline it is not TCP as many describe but that is why the confusion. As I say this is an effective oil and it is because it is effective that it still finds its way into many commercial pharmaceutical products still!

Great pain reliever when used carefully
My other half has rheumatoid arthritis (and is unable to take NSAIDs like ibuprofen because he has gut issues) and I have back and knee problems.Diluted with fractionated coconut oil - and used sparingly - this has been a very good way of easing joint pain when applied at the source of the inflammation, it is absorbed quickly by the skin and works pretty well for mild-to-moderate pain.Don't eat it - or use it too often - and read up on salicylate poisoning to ensure you avoid it and this will probably be a good oil for any herbalist to keep handy.

Acquired Smell, Strong & good value
Never had Wintergreen before & thought I would give it a try. This is very strong, and you only need to use 3-4 drops for a good size room. It has a very 'Green' Fresh smell a bit like Vicks, but without the Eucalyptus element. I primarily use it now to freshen the room just when I feel like a change, and also if I feel a bit stuffy or congested, as it seems to be good for clearing the sinuses& chest if you have had a cough or cold.

ONE OF THE BEST FOR ACHES AND PAINS - ECONOMICAL TO USE
Excellent essential oil for aches and pains - very healthy smell. Not far off 'Instant Relief'. I use it neat - a few drops in the palm of my hand and rub well into the affected area. I find it to be very powerful and works wonders for me. Being a liquid, it is not as greasy as a muscle rub/gel.

It works well
I use a lot of wintergreen oil to make pain balms. It works well and helps.

Crisp, nasal clearing
Memories of crisp cold mornings running around the rugby field with steaming bodies panting hot breath and smelling of this stuff. Not for me I was the one standing in the dugout with a forged sick note and grateful I didn't have to discover the funny side of getting a dollop of wintergreen smeared on my underwear. Those memories aside I like wintergreen for it's nasal clearing abilities and it gives a lovely fresh smell to liven up my bedroom. I haven't used it on my skin but it has pain relief properties when diluted and and gives a warm feel to aching muscles. Don't use on open cuts or near the eyes.I also use this in my diffuser and mix it with menthol and eucalyptus. Being a "100% pure" oil it won't clog the diffuser.

A warming, spicy scent- blends well with others
Nice smell, I got it for my sauna and it works well with other essential oils scents such as olbas oil, lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus etc. Its like a spicey, invigorating smell. Quite powerful. My husband likes it too.

Not a bad scent
When I purchased it was to blend different mixes for the oil diffuser as quite a few winter mixes need it. This is quite a strong scent and good if you like the smell of Deep Heat. For me, I don't think I could use it solus but its good mixed.
