Drums to both learn and practice on
Maybe I should have bought this for myself rather than my 8 year old. It is a great electronic drum kit for beginners. I have probably spent more time on it than my son and am working on learning my first drum beat. My son loves it, he is having lessons and this is helping him practice. The kit setups you can create are useful but not essential as you tend to concentrate on one set. You can set them up any way you want though so you get the drum set you really want. Volume is adjustable for all of the individual pads and you can control the master volume. You do tend to hear the stick hitting the pad alongside the drum noise but this doesn't detract from the overall feel. Plug in your headphones and this isn't an issue and it sounds great. The hand percussion setting is a nice feature as it allows you to play various drum set ups, such as bongos, if you just want to have a little fun. The metronome is brilliant for learning your timing and I am sure the backing tracks will come in useful once my or should I say my son's skills improve. It really is a great set which I believe will help my son not just now but for most of his school life, first as a teaching aid and then as a practice kit due to it's mobility. It has battery backup so he will be able to port it around to practice.

Good Drums for Beginner. Poor Stand.
This is a good drum kit for a beginner. The stand is a let down. As other reviewers have commented, the stand is for a keyboard not a digital drum kit. The foot pedals are great but you need to be sitting to use them. At a comfortable seated height, the stand is too wide for the drum kit. Another reviewer said the vendor suggested using a plank of wood... unfortunately, given the need for a short term solution, a plank of what I am going to have to do. If I were to buy this again, I'd just get the drum kit and source an alternative stand solution.

great piece of 'kit'...
Something from China without a virus! brilliant little gem this thing! sounds realistic and dynamic if a pro was playing it the sound is very convincing. Easy to create your own 'kits' too on five of the 50(!) build your own though cos the other 45 are frankly, well not much use. I suppose kids might enjoy messing about with them but get into the last 5 'user kits' and just create your choice of pad voices. Plug it in and enjoy it, its really good value and upto now very well built and it is standing being bashed daily, gonna learn to play with this set of pads for sure! Warning - look around the cost of these things vary between £80 to £140!! upto you! enjoy!

Not responsive - NEEDS TO BE HIT HARD
Not good, had to hit WAY TO HARD to get a sound. Hitting at normal levels produced nothing.

Bought this for my son's 11 the birthday as he has just started drumming lessons at School and was keen to practice at home. Felt this was a good compromise as did not want to commit to a drum kit just yet. He loved it and plays it regularly, he can use with headphones which helps with the noise level. Although you do need to get an adapter if using normal headphones. It came with drumsticks which we were not expecting however the quality was not great with those, but we bought some others and there are pretty cheap to purchase so did not really matter. Quick delivery and well packed. Overall really happy

Great affordable drum pads - Hugely recommended!
I've recently taken up drumming as a hobby, and after having taken some drum lessons on a real kit and then trying this for a few days, I realize this is as near to the real thing as its incredibly low price would permit. The dozens of preset drumkits are great. The pads are touch sensitive - not incredibly so, they seem to have a sensitivity difference of 2 or 3 levels but still it's not bad for something that costs about a hundred bucks. They seem to be pretty durable so far. The songs on it are kind of horribly old fashioned, but who needs those? You can use any real song from any source to practice along. The metronome is nice. The only thing missing (or that I havent been able to figure out) was to be able to adjust the sound level of the metronome, which is too loud for me. Also I haven't (yet) been able to figure out how to individually adjust each drum's sound levels. Overall, nitpicking aside, this feels like one of the best investments I've ever made from Amazon.
