No it is not sugar soap. It is a potassium soap made from vegetable oils, free of phosphates

Would this product be safe on unvarnished wooden kitchen chairs?

Have only used it on polished solid mahogany Schreiber kitchen units. It worked a treat. It's very gentle nothing like a chemical cleaner which I would never have used. Maybe try a small area first.

I think i used too much how long does the lemony smell last for as mine is very strong at the moment

Yes the lemon smell/scent is inevitable but considering that I used the whole bottle on my large piece of furniture, with the patio doors open only during the day while cleaning) the smell was gone the next day.

Will oil soap clean off marks on varnished and polished cherry wood. Can't seem to remove the cats paw marks!

Have only used to clean pine kitchen doors.Did a really good job
