I added a charging pot to the rear of my 2019 Tacoma center console and used these for the connector port. I took the back panel off the center, measured for clearance and drilled a hole. Under the center arm rest I used a step drill to drill a small hole in the bottom, added a small rubber grommet to protect the usb c cable, plugged it into the factory charging port, ran it through the grommet and plugged it into this connection port, wire tied the excess cable and reinstalled the panel. The connection port is sturdy, easy to install, and works like a champ.

As others have mentioned, it only passes power from the "back" side to the "front"... if they had said that I never would have bought it. Dust cover kinda works, but won't stay put. I guess I got what I paid for...

I wanted to install this in a conference room so anyone can plug into the dock. It looks nice installed, but it didn't work at all with the Anker hub I intended it for. I tried multiple high quality cords and flipped each end multiple times to make sure it wasn't just me. It did work at my workstation with with my Hyper dock as long as the cord was flipped in the right orientation. The display came on but i didn't test power transfer or speed. But if it doesn't work with everything with the cord flipped either way, then it's useless for my situation. I need my universal plugs to be universal. If you have a permanent installation that doesn't require you to unplug and plug in regularly, and you are the only one who has to use it and know the secret way to get it to work, and don't have high charging or data demands, then it might work for you. The seller was gracious enough to make it right in the end, so its safe to give it a try.

Tested the first one and it worked so I drilled the hole and mounted it. It failed immediately. So I tested the the second one and it worked. I mounted it and it failed. Both pieces no longer work after removing from the panel. Now I have a hole with nothing in it. hopefully I can find a reliable replacement. This is junk.

So the dust cap is pointless. The rubber for it is so soft and plugs into the socket but also has to go around the pins inside it. I could not get it to go in. Next, and worse, is this port is directional for data and power. I'm using it just for power so the data part isn't a huge issue, but that data issue means that it won't fast charge in one direction. My phone was at 70% charge and would take either 31 minutes or 1 hour 58 minutes to charge all the way just by reversing the cable. That's ridiculous. Stay away from this thing, it should just be passing all the pins right through as they are, not leaving some disconnected.

USB-C is supposed to be reversible, not this port!
