Awesome leather nourisher...
Wow...this is a contentious issue for leather footwear. Whether to wax or not wax. The instructions that came with my boots suggested not using wax based formulae...and using water based waterproofing like Nikwax. Ok....so we can discuss this issue until the end of time. All I'll say is, I applied the G-wax onto my new boots and it was absorbed into the leather...that is a good sign. I used G-wax on all of my boots, both work, walking and dress...and they all looked the better for it. I wanted something other than mink oil which I loathe because of its origins...and I found it in this product. I think I will also buy the Nikwax and use both products. But from what I have seen...G-wax is an affordable and classic treatment for leather boots. The fact that G-wax didn't just sit on the surface but was taken down into the leather suggests it is a suitable leather conditioner and waterproofer. The price is also extremely attractive...and beeswax is legendary in terms of its antibacterial qualities and its ability to nourish.

Good stuff....been using it for years.
First off... a word about the people who supplied me via Amazon. In this instance it was Active Outdoors (also possibly known as Spinn.co.uk...both names featured during my correspondence with them). My delivery went slightly awry as the parcel was split and only one tin was inside instead of the two I ordered. Having contacted the supplier, who hardly ever have issues with the strength of the packaging, I suspect the parcel had been tampered with somewhere in the Royal Mail system (there was a clean-ish cut right across the package which didn't look as though it could easily have happened accidentally), and I did make representations to the Post Office, however the suppliers responded to my email almost straight away and kindly offered to send a replacement - which they did and which arrived literally the next day, having been sent First Class post. Absolutely first class service from them - thank you. And back to the item.... As per the title. Used it on boots mainly and never had cause to regret it. There is currently a choice of numerous products to treat your boots and other leather outdoor wear with. As well as G Wax you could use dubbin (both the hard 'Woly Wax' and the soft 'Cherry Blossom' dubbin....see my reviews), or Nikwax Aqueous Liguid, then there's Neatsfoot Oil or Hydrophane Leather Dressing Oil as well as ordinary shoe polish - either black, brown or neutral. I honestly think you could use any of the above (and I have used all the above) and you'd preserve the leather but I'd say the G wax is as easy and as effective as any and there would be no possibility of the dubbin rotting stitching, as per the old wives tale. Certainly it's the one almost universally recommended by manufacturers and it wouldn't prejudice any warranty you might have whereas not everyone loves dubbin. The Nikwax Aqueous Liquid is good for wet boots, after you've cleaned and rinsed them, but takes a while to treat the boots all over as you really need to brush it on then work it in with your fingers....but it does soak in well and is good stuff. If using G Wax or dubbin I've always warmed up the boots, whilst applying it, with a hairdryer or electric paint stripper set on low and that helps the stuff to soak into the stitching. The G Wax does polish up quite well albeit not as well as ordinary shoe polish does. Lastly I routinely treat fabric or suede or nubuck boots with G Wax (and sometimes dubbin) and have NEVER had a scrap of trouble...whether it be Goretex lined boots or otherwise. In my opinion nubuck/suede/fabric boots need a good treatment of waterproofer as per above and none of my boots make me sweat unduly and are all waterproof. The spray on suede stuff isn't worth buying (IMO) so ALL my boots get regularly maintained with proper treatments. (And I have to admit, I've got a few!).

Excellent
Good stuff, used it on my leather motorcycle gloves the leather was looking dull and dry, this brought them back to life, more supple and gave them a shine. Reckon they will work well on my hiking boots

Great for waterproofing and appearance.
Waterproofs well. I applied two coats to a leather hat that previously soaked up water like a sponge. Now water beads up and runs right off. It has become my go-to hat when there's heavy rain despite being leather, because it works as a small umbrella on my head! I applied it using a fade brush which I've reserved for G-Wax. It's fairly small with stiff nylon bristles so it does a great job working wax into seams, and isn't wasteful. (I bought a bunch of them, they're dirt cheap in bulk.) I plan to do this treatment on a new leather trench coat. I might switch to using a medium sized boar bristle military hair brush. It will probably hog the wax (pun not intended) but will be worth it in the long run if reserved for the task.

Does the job, but water protection doesn’t last
Easy but labour intensive to apply. The boots changed colour to the colour they appear when wet, but this is due to the wax absorption so I’m ok with that. They were waterproof for a few days but you’ll need to reapply weekly for it to stay that way. I’d probably try one of the liquids or sprays next time.

water beads off my boots
I tried this after years of plastering my walking boots in regular polish and can say the following. : the tin suggests thin layers and I will agree with this, it does not spread on that easilly unless you heat either your boots up with a hair dryer or put the tin in hot water to liquefy the contents a bit. :water proofing is excellent, I ran my boots under the tap after applying and the water just beaded off, my boots were bone dry. : I did go a bit overboard with my first application of the wax and found that even after being melted into the leather with a hairdryer I had white patches appearing in the creases of the boot after the wax solidified and the movement of my foot cracked it. a brief scrub with a boot cleaning brush scraped off the excess. : one tin will go a long way I think one tin will easily last me a year of walks in the rain etc. : I will say do not use this product if you intend on getting a spotless bulling on your boots, polish and this stuff dont mix well so make your choice and either go for polish or wax, the wax is far better for rain and walking in but you will never achieve a decent shine on your boots using this. please click the helpful tab if you found my experiences useful
