BLACK+DECKER BDCCS18N-XJ 18 V Circular Saw

Marvellous power tool, very easy to use and cuts through wood effortlessly. Not heavy to hold and cuts accurately, put a heavy duty 4ah battery on and will work for about an hour. Very pleased with this saw.

As a DIY tool this saw is pretty good, with one big exception. I didn't think it was possible to buy a circular saw which did not include a parallel guide, also known as a rip fence. It is after all just two small pieces of metal welded together. I called the B&D customer advice people, who were as helpful as they could be; only to find that while the saw baseplate has the fittings for a guide, the guide is not included. Worse still, B&D do not make one to buy; but it was added that the guides of other manufacturers might fit – at extra cost. I needed to cut fixed width lengths off 9mm ply boards in straight lines. However, without a guide the B&D saw was unfit for my simple purpose, so it went back under Amazon’s customer friendly returns policy. For my use the saw would rate one star, but I would give it four as a steer for other buyers who might not need to cut fixed widths in straight lines. It would benefit from a case, though the info made it clear that one was not included. However, it fits into a DeWalt IV Tstack box. My only other suggestion for the B&D design team is that with very little modification the saw could be made as an alternative to take the B&D 36V batteries, which would give it a much better performance.

Easy to use, highly portable

Bought this saw because I have two 18V B&D screwdrivers and wanted one that would share the charger and batteries. First problem is that driver batteries are not big enough to power the saw so I had to buy a 4Ah Li Ion battery. New battery from fully charged only managed 1.8m of 18mm mdf before cutting out, but that is not the worst feature. The baseplate flexes in relation to the blade during use so the cut angle changes by up to 5 degrees and nothing will stop it as the construction is too flimsy. The cut edge is then not square and the saw moved away from the guide straight edge so was not even straight. I was not being heavy handed and have used circ saws for years. If cutting wood the blade could easily bind. On a mains saw this could be disastrous but I suspect this one will cut out. In my opinion this is a design flaw so am returning it to Amazon. Amazon were great about it, have refunded my money including the extra blade bought for this saw and were really helpful with my concerns about shipping back the Li Ion battery

great little saw

Product arrived but without a battery. Annoying ! The marketing does mention in small print no battery on box but otherwise one can be led to believe that a battery is included !! annoying marketing.

Purchased for long cuts needed on some new decking. I already had a battery from the black and decker strimmer so thought it would make sense to get a body only unit. Read the instructions for cutting depth, this tool won't take prisoners if you underestimate it. The cutting guide is very accurate and I was very impressed with the quality of cut, even on a 2.4metre length of decking, wouldn't have been able to keep the line as straight with my jigsaw. I would say get a spare battery if you're going to be making a lot of cuts, you don't want it dying half way through, I am very pleased with this purchase, especially for diy projects.
