Q: Does anyone know the dimensions, can't see it in the description? Particularly the thickness, the images make it look very thick.

It is quite thick but plenty of space to hold everything you need, the following measurement are in cm26-13-5

No, there is dedicated slots for game cartridges and a space to put accessories like earphones and spare joycons...but the grip is a bit too big for it

Q: Would the controller without the 'joy-cons' fit inside the top pocket?

Tested, and no, it does not close.
