Works superbly - Maybe too well :-) !!
This week I bought two UV torches, the first from ebay emitted a yellow light despite its picture showing blue and didn't do the 'Hotel horror thing at all' . This one, despite being smaller, IS blue and the black light aspect works superbly. The device is surprisingly small, but the beam is bright if perhaps a little narrow - in short it does the job excellently. The only down side so far is that the only way I can see to switch it off - it to take the batteries out. I only just got it so cannot put a meaningful rating on battery life.I live in rental accommodation and have always kept my bathrooms super-clean - or so I thought. Marks were in places unimaginable and completely invisible to the naked eye.In many ways one of the best things about this, is that very like dental reveal mouthwash, it may help you to spot any areas you are missing in your clean. I found several in my kitchen. Another great aspect is When you look again after a thorough clean - and now really know everything is spotless!So... Tiling is now all vigorously cleaned with White Vinegar (another great Amazon purchase and works brilliantly). I will also be repainting some of it so maybe factor for cleaning materials and paint if you have similar results.I did buy a pair of yellow UV/blue light safety glasses to go with the light and recommend that. I am not wholly sure I have the right type so do do your research on the glasses side of things.I have yet to try it on fabric finishes. The mattress in my apartment predates my tenancy... I am now scared to look at it... I see a mattress purchase occuring!

I was a little unsure whether this would work for what we had in mind, however we went ahead and ordered it and (with Prime) it arrived next day.It arrived in a brown Amazon box, you know the ones, size of an aircraft hangar... Who boxes these things I don't know but what is Amazon going to call itself when the Rainforest has gone?Oh yes, I digress. The torch. It appears well made, aluminium casing finished in black. Chinglish batteries are included, and they work, and moreover are still working a month on despite daily use.Press the button on the end to turn the torch on, and press again to turn off. Each operation of the switch is reassuringly solid, the switch itself doesn't feel that it will fall apart anytime soon.Right, we bought this to check the cleanliness of our kitchen, my wife's pride, and her joy. I know lots of you are thinking of CSI-ing your bedrooms with it, and I wish you much luck, it doesn't work so well between the sheets, .....apparentlyTurn off the lights in the late evening in the kitchen, switch on the torch and shine it at your stove-top. Before we did this ourselves, our stove top was spotless, after we shone the torch, well, it looked like we'd murdered the world. Same again with both ovens, spotless before the torch, scene of barbaric crime with the torch on. Just don't check your work surfaces!Suffice to say, the torch itself is great, working perfectly well for what we needed, costing us about six quid with prime delivery. In the long run, as is now the case for us, your wallet may take the beating of a new range stove, with matching ovens & grill. A fantastic gadget, but just maybe Not such a wise purchase after all!For fun Shine the torch on your plastic driving licence & bank notes...

Can't see it?........now you can
This is a really useful little torch. The torch requires 3xAAA batteries, which are included (always a good start!). It is 9.5 cm long, with a front glass diameter of 2.5 cm. The light cannot be focussed. It weighs 93 g (including the batteries) and comes with a lanyard already attached, which is a nice touch. It is made from what looks like an aluminium alloy of some sort and feels solid. The light claims to be at a wavelength of 395nM, (so no UVC or UVB (the sunburn one) just UVA) and is just on the edge of where the (violet) visible part of the spectrum begins. In terms of the UV light itself, the light does not appear that "bright" because most of the light being given off cannot be seen by the human eye. It works by certain materials absorbing the UV light and then giving off light in the visible part of the spectrum that the eye can then see.Anyway, all that aside, this is a pretty effective little torch. I think one of its biggest uses is detecting animal urine (cat urine, in particular, glows very brightly), but it is also good at illuminating up all kinds of things; tennis and ping-pong balls, cash, driving licences, some teeth crowns, tonic water, white paper, toothpaste, laundry detergent, antifreeze, highlighter pens, honey, ketchup, cotton wool balls, rock salt, turmeric, olive oil .......even bugs in the garden!....(I was told to stop looking and put it away, at this point!!)(I've included a couple of pictures at the end, of a tennis ball and a bit of cotton wool under normal torch light and under this UV torch light, to show the difference). If you have a furry friend in the house, it is very useful indeed!
