Don't Monkey With Broadway

More Fun Than A Barrel of Boadway Monkeys!!
I've been excited at the prospect of every Patti Lupone recording since hearing her in the Broadway recording of Evita from 1976! Live is always the best way to hear her because she plays '"Patti" bigger than any other role. Don't miss her at her PEAK!!!! There's a nice variety of Broadway material with obligatory nods to Stephen Schwartz (Meadowlark), Lloyd Webber (Don't Cry For Me Argentina), Porter (Don't Monkey with Broadway & Blow Gabriel Blow) and a whole bunch of Sondheim tunes. Nice piano playing/arrangements Joseph Thalken. Trouble from The Music Man & other tunes with the Northport High School Choir were FUN!! Don't need a lot of instruments and production with a bigger than life talent like Patti Lupone. She is sounding GREAT in 2017!!! Lots of fun hearing stories going back to her career starting in elementary & Jr High School.

Patti's voice is a miracle
Patti LuPone is a national treasure and Northport, L.I. should erect a statue in her honor. The CD was recorded in her hometown and her former high school choir provides backup on a few songs. The choir augments Patti's beautiful performance without getting in the way or being distracting. Patti's voice is strong, and she chose great songs to accompany her best-known numbers. My favorites, aside from her signature songs, are "Trouble" and the "West Side Story" medley, where she flawlessly sings two parts. This is a great, fun CD from a performer who can make her audience feel a wide spectrum of emotions. I can't wait to see Patti live again.

Don't Cry for Me!
Patti Lupone is a Broadway marvel. This 2-disk CD takes us along on her early years and incredible success in musical theater. Singing her greatest hits, she goes home to her high school where it all began and joins the current high school choir for a few songs, too. Her funny narration adds much to the tone of her songs. I will see her in a concert in two weeks that is based on this album. Can't wait.

BRILLIANCE TO THE Nth DEGREE
BRILLIANT IN EVERY WAY All Patti needs is a piano and wham..... she's off like a freight train. This woman is amazing and this double-length CD captures her energy in full force! This is one of those recordings that make us fall in love with her all over again (as if that was even necessary?) Just incredible, Ms. Lupone BRAVA TO YOU

Good performance
I love Patti LuPone! This is a very good album although she sings and talks so fast it's difficult to understand her at times. She hits her stride singing Sondheim.

I love Patti
If you love PL, you will love this album. It is also great to hear popular songs on piano, especially if you are a music major.

... talking these do not take away from Patti LuPone's wonderful performances of a variety of songs

Four Stars
Nice, but noy her best work. Fun and casual though.

Sonically ragged
LuPone-nics will revel. Others might not be entirely thrilled. It's a bit like someone's home movies; technically iffy. 'Trouble', the opening number from 'The Music Man' has the real wow factor that only LuPone can provide (& it's not the only written-for-a-man track on this live recording). It's real value is as a document; not as warm as her 'Matters of the Heart', nor as compelling as 'The Lady with the Torch'.

Nearing her best before date.
Always worthwhile, but just less than perfect.
