At Least You Have Your Health

moving, thought-provoking, compelling women’s fiction. It’s perfect book club read
Many thanks to the publisher for free e-copy in exchange for an honest review. It doesn't affect my review or rating. At Least You Have Your Health is realistic and compelling women’s fiction that revolves around mainly Maya and also Amelia, and their different views on women’s healthcare. The story is about Indian immigrants, upbringing, hyperparenting, women in medicine, racism, motherhood, work-life balance, women’s health care and healthcare system, and inclusion and diversity. This is character driven story and there is lot happening. Maya and Amelia are interesting characters.Best part is all the layers and themes of inclusion, medicine, classism, racism, and women’s healthcare. I liked how author talked about life of immigrants, their struggle in new country with inclusion and racism, how little people know about women’s anatomy and healthcare and how schools and hospitals still use the outdated system when it comes to education on women’s anatomy and sex.Why 4 stars-At some point, I felt the story is stuck with pace and I was tired of Maya not seeing what she is doing and how it is changing her and their way of living.Overall, At Least You Have Your Health is moving, thought-provoking, compelling and steady paced women’s fiction. It’s perfect book club read with many topics to discuss.I highly recommend this if you enjoy,Steady paced storywomen’s fictionWomen in STEMtheme of inclusion, diversity, racism, classismlayer of hyper parenting, immigrant life, PTSDtopic of women’s healthcare

Satirical and moving!
Excellent read! Satirical, suspenseful, and moving. To be honest, I wasn't sure about this book during the first two chapters but I'm so glad I kept reading. Sinha has a gift for writing such captivating and complex backgrounds on the characters in this novel. I recommend it!

a must read!
At Least You Have Your Health examines what we are brainwashed into believing and accepting as personal, professional, societal, and financial success. Maya, the daughter of immigrants, struggles to be the best mother, family steward, and physician. As she tries to get ahead and achieve more, she encounters the world of the ultra rich - where healthcare (and everything else) seems to bend to their will. Unexpectedly, a fascinating medical mystery unfolds as Maya challenges her own definitions of success. I highly recommend it!

Thoroughly engaging
I couldn’t put it down!I really enjoyed the representation, and the sensitivity and realism in which topics were handled—I’ve had those conversations between Esther and Maya—I see my colleagues struggling with the same issues as Maya re: work/family balance.

A holistic anthem to motherhood and medicine
What an outstanding book. Proof that sometimes lightening strikes twice. Sinha is able to take so many complex themes and weave them together into a narrative that hits the mark for our current, insane timeline.
