Great Cooking but Plastic Smell
This cooks great and makes everything taste amazing but the first few weeks it did have a weird plastic smell that eventually went away. I have used this to cook anything and everything, including eggs, chicken, bacon, veggies and even heating up bread. Not one item I’ve cooked has come out tasting bad. I will say I wish I got a bigger basket or even a double basket to make multiple items at once.

Not what it used to be
I purchased one of the first generation philips airfryers very expensive, it had a screen bottom basket which with its patented base cooked and crisped better and faster than anything else on the market. We liked it so well we purchased another recently just incase the older one broke down. We recently started to use the new one and the first thing we noticed was the basket now looks like everyone else, just a stamped piece of metal. We have found that the cheapness of the basket has rendered the patented bottom useless, it nolonger crisps as it did and takes just as long as the brands half the price. I highly recommend not wasting your money on the brand name and just go cheap because the only brand that really was above the rest nolonger is, it's just charging for a name. If they would provide a screened basket they could solve this but obviously they don't care.

A big step backward from earlier model
We purchased an older model air fryer by Phillips several years ago. I think it was called an Avance. It was superior in many ways to this model. First, they changed the way you can remove the basket. If, like us, you open the air fryer and toss the contents, now you have to open the air fryer, push a button, and move a safety switch before you can do that. All the while, valuable heat is lost from the unit. I appreciate safety options more than most people but this design was not adequately tested and is not really safe. Second, when you remove the basket, the whole assembly drops out of the air fryer unit. The older model had the basket in a drawer that pulled out on a slide. The slide held the drawer in place. Now, when you pull the basket out, there's nothing that holds the drawer in place so the entire [very hot] assembly drops on your counter. Now we're buying a silicone mat to protect our counter. Alert: you need a silicone mat that's about 12" square and those aren't easy to find. Our last big problem is that there's no preheat for the temperature. Phillips seems to want you to use all of their presets but we don't agree with the time or the temperature. Which is also a problem. Adding to the fact that the unit won't preheat, you have to guess at how much time to add for cooking. Disclosure: we use our air fryer for a lot of reheating and particularly like the fact that we can reheat take out to remove excess oil. We just miss the old features that made this unit so good and can't see a way to rate it much higher.

Mostly disappointed that you can't rely on any recipe you may find online. All the recipes I looked at on their app mention that the cooking settings are not adapted to my model (??). Compared to cooking with a conventional oven that you don't have to think about adapting the cooking to your oven. My first try was a whole chicken. The look was pretty nice, but after 60 mins as described it was uncooked. I put it another 15 mins, still not fully cooked.... if I had used my oven it would have been much faster. The only positive is that the chicken was not dry, but regarding the taste, the oven is much better. Oven: 1; airfryer: 0. Another try: homemade spring rolls. 15 mins cooking for 5 large rolls, they came out dry and tastless. I used my regular fryer, 4 mins for 7 rolls, and the color and taste were excellent as usual. It would have taken over an hour if I had continued with the airfryer compared to around 15mins for a batch of 30 rolls. Deep fryer: 1; airfryer: 0. Tried General Tao chicken cooked for 20 mins, but the texture was a bit off. Cooked the other half on my pan, came out crispy and yummy as usual. Pan: 1; airfryer: 0. Tried frozen french fries using the airfrier settings. Recipe on their app says to add just a little oil. They came out sticky, and the taste weird. Airfryer: 0. Tried crispy spinach, this time it seemed to work, but had to cook it 16 mins instead of 8 as described on the app.... (so 1 point for my review for this single try that seemed to somehow work)... So, cooking isn't as fast as advertised, the taste result is not impressive. I prefer by far my "conventional" method. I guess I'll have to try more vegetables, but if I knew the airfryer is good for vegetables only I would have bought a smaller model perhaps....
