Powerful Diagnosgtics
We got this to help troubleshoot our vehicle and our friends vehicles. It arrives needing to be charged and updated. It takes about 30 minutes to update. It comes in its own carry case with each component having its own storage spot.It comes with a thorough instruction book that is clear and easy to understand. The entire system is well designed. The tablet is very rugged and does not require a protective case. The components are all solid. The case is sturdy. All of the connection wires feel durable. To test this out i took it to my neighbors to hook up to a fixer upper he is working on.The machine diagnosed 4 different errors. One error was very unexpected. The other three were what he suspected already, But are now confirmed.Using this tool saved my neighbor a lot of time and money. We would buy this again.

A decent scanner for most mechanics
The Pad8 is a pretty complete unit with a few disappointments. it comes complete with a good variety of adapters so that it can function on a variety of vehicles. Includes the proper OBD-1 adapter for pre 1996 vehicles that are so equipped. There are also power options included so the device can be plugged into a lighter socket or clipped directly to the battery if necessary. After charging, I registered the unit and the VCI (the dongle). It was a very easy process. The unit is able to print your business info on every report you generate which was a nice feature. I checked out the 'repair info' screen and it gave me the obd code library, a 'video' section, and a 'learning materials' section. The only one that worked was the code library and it was of some use. There is a TPMS icon, however, you must buy another accessory for that to work. The 'maintenance' section includes a large variety of resets and maintenance items including a 'power balance' test that can be very useful, however most of the useful tests are only available to the more popular manufacturers and my Toyota (any model year) wasn't available for most of the tests and resets. I was able to look at and graph data and the graphing function was very good with the ability to graph 4 PID's on a single graph or up to 12 on individual graphs. All can be recorded. The graphing update rates were also reasonable. The number of PID's available to graph is about average compared to other brands of scanners I own and is vehicle manufacturer limited in many cases. There is a very useful vehicle battery voltage indicator in the corner of all screens that displays the current voltage so you can make sure you always have enough. The Pad8 is a nice sized unit. The manual shows a 'kickstand' on the back but mine did not have it. It would have been useful. My other 2 scanners have flashlights built into the VCI and I get a lot of use out of it. The Pad8 VCI does not have a light so either bring a flashlight or fumble in the dark to get the VCI connected. Here's the problem I had with the Pad8: It's pretty slow. It boots up fast but once a Health Report is initiated you have time to get a cup of coffee. When you pick out the PID's you want to display it takes a while to list them. I did notice that if you list data, go off the page and return it comes back faster. Now, to be honest, I tested the unit on 3 vehicles and the newest one was a 2005. I'm guessing part of the speed issue may be the age of the ECU in the vehicle. My other scanners are also somewhat slower on older stuff.I get the feeling that this was rushed to market before it was 100% finished. I hope they update the features that haven't been completed. It is still a decent tool, however, it's price puts it square in the middle of a very competitive group of other scanner options that may be more desirable. I will still use this scanner as there are times when even the very best diagnostic tool will give you erroneous readings and you'll need a backup tool to verify your work.

Eazy To Use
This scanner was easy to setup and get working. The screen is responsive and crisp and clear, and the unit has a good overall feel to it. I have tested many Thinktool scanners and I hav been impressed with all of them. This scanner is overkill for me, I just poke around at the house so a mid level scanner covers my needs but I can see this right at home with a professional mechanic who can utilize all of the functions. This is a good scanner and I can recommend it. 5 STARS

Unreal what this can do!
Ok, there's already a lot of good in-depth technical reviews here on this. It works on nearly all passenger vehicles. It can connect to the specialized modules that most others can't. I myself work on Ford's regularly. This allows me to access all the stuff like APIM, HSW, BCM, you name it. Typically this level of functionality would require a dealership computer. I've tried hacks in the past that kind of let you do that type of thing but they were all sketchy and I was always scared I was going to brick something. Not any more, this tool is straight up awesome. This is probably overkill for anyone less than enthusiast level or pro's trying to avoid paying truck tool prices. Just get it.

Works well!
Arrived nicely packaged. This scan tool is very well made and nice and compact. It looks and feels solid. The scanner in my view is a professional grade tool with lots of features. It has everything you need to diagnose a vehicle and more. The bidirectional controls have worked for me in multiple different vehicle makes and models. I use this tool daily in the mechanic shop I work in. The refresh rate is good and the touch screen works well. Overall this is a great tool for the price compared to other more expensive ones!
