MotorGuide 940200090 X3 Freshwater Bow Mount Trolling Motor — Cable Steer, Foot-Control — 45-Inch Shaft, 55-Pound Peak Thrust

Can not be without your trolling gear!

I got this as a replacement for my Minn Kota 45lb thrust trolling motor and you'll notice the difference in power with the extra 10lb thrust. I use it for my 175 Tracker and that's all I need. I just hope it holds up as I noticed some of the parts are plastic and the part where you can adjust the height of the trolling motor does not hold it tight in place and the motor slips all of the way down to it's fullest length. It appears to be a design flaw as the silver finished rod is smooth and the holder can't grip it tightly to keep it in place. Otherwise, having it at full length still works for me.

This trolling motor was bought last year for more than $600.00 in May and used for only fishing season. As you can obviously see the lower motor was not assembled correctly and water seeped into the lower unit rusting& ceasing the armature and magnetic inside of it and is now unusable. There's no obvious damage to the outside of the unit, and as you can see the seals where starting to dry rot. I sent Customer service the pictures as they requested but are still requesting for me to take it to a authorized service provider which I tried to locate, but there are there none within 100 miles to me residence. All the Marina's around my area that are Mercury service qualified centers don't have time to work on trolling motors this time of year, or normally don't even provide service to these trolling motors. MotorGuide has been very difficult to deal with, & should provide me with another unit without hesitation!! I will be following up these comments after I get some advice on how to handle this moving forward. I have a minn kota that have had for more than 30 years, and have never had any issues with it, so have never had to reach out to their customer service.

I specifically ordered this trolling motor because the delivery date was before my vacation. When I checked the status a day or 2 later they changed the date of delivery. I wanted this for a back up to my regular motor since it’s old and finicky. Well it never arrived before we were scheduled to leave. There was no time to order another to arrive on time. Needless to say we really needed it on vacation. Extremely disappointed that the delivery date was changed when this was ordered specifically because originally it was supposed to be here the day before we left! When we got back I installed the motor. Took it out on a local lake and the propeller fell off while in use!!! I ordered a new propeller and put it on and have used it since then. It works ok but seriously not happy with the purchase at all.

When we unpacked it found a wheel and a pin in bottom of box they never bent the tab to hold the pin in had to back off cable adjustment install and reset tension should of been caught in final inspection.

Works great on my bass tracker. When my 3 year old Minn Kota trolling motor gave out. And was going to cost me as much as a new one. I figured I didn't want another Minn Kota. This one went on the Minn kota mount. So no extra holes. 😕

Purchased in feb 2024 and installed March 2024 and on 3rd trip out directional arrow does not work. Finally pulled cover off to see why and the cheap plastic gears are stripped on several places. A $600 55lb thrust trolling motor should not break on the 3rd outing. As I said motor performs great had plenty of power but plastic is not made to hold up test of time. They need to make this right and do better I mean an aluminum gear would cost them what $3 more dollars or even if it was $10 more build a quality piece and not a POS.
