great pour over dripper
got this to replace my plastic 102 dripper on my kalita coffee make. works perfect, definitely an improvement in flavor and aroma. if using as a stand alone dripper you may encounter overflow issues if you have trouboe with this the put a toothpick between dripper and mug. this will increase flow rate but sacrifice some of the flavor notes you are able to extract with this style dripper.

Liked More in Person
I'm not a huge fan of the beehive-like aesthetic of Hario products and this Kalita dripper. That said, however, in person it looks much nicer than in pictures and appears well made and high quality. The handle is more like brown (it often appears black like Bakelite in pictures). All in all a pleasant surprise, and a nice backup for the copper dripper from Kalita that I also own. (This one has much easier maintenance, no polishing, while the copper one is simply gorgeous amongst the coffee and kitchen ware.) This one also performs very well too, with no issues whatsoever that I've run across so far.

Quality stainless steel coffee dripper; uses Melitta #2 filters
We wanted a stainless steel dripper, because we've been trying to move away from plastic. The only catch was that I did not want to have to use proprietary filters. After I learned that I could still use my Melitta #2 filters, I ordered this coffee dripper. My husband and I liked it so much, we bought 2 more.

I use this every morning
This Coffee dripper and the Kalita filters along with perfectly ground beans and specifically heated water are part of my morning routine. The best way to start the day!

Hard to make an amazing cup with, but it's okay
The way I use this thing, I personally think amounts to a similar experience to drip. I use it more than I do my V60. I bought a 58mm espresso puck screen (sort price low to high they are all basically the same) to put in the bottom to deal with the filter paper clogging the bottom holes, and it works okay. The added immersion of the flat bottom and slow draining holes means that your cup will be more extracted so you can grind looser. You should use a more traditional drip coffee type grind with it, or else you will get frustrating stalls and over extracted cups. The espresso puck screen in the bottom helps but you still need a lot looser of a grind than V60. To make a truly excellent cup you still need to control your extraction precisely, and that still takes skill and timing. I usually don't bother with that first thing in the morning. Instead I have the Hario drip assist and use it on top of the Kalita wave with puck screen at the bottom and it makes a very consistent cup, better than a drip coffee maker because no off notes, but not super spectacular. If you are used to drip coffee do this with a medium grind and you will get a good cup you enjoy. Grind matters a lot still because it is still a filter method, but far less than V60. Definitely a forgiving brewer, good for beginners. I've made bad/funky note cups with it due to stalling/overextraction or weak/sour cups due to loose grind/underextraction, so you still need to dial it in. But if you want to get into filter brewing this is a good way to start. I feel like tetsu kasuya being all vague about it like he is in his videos but it kinda is an embodied practice and an art as well as a science so you need to just make a bunch of coffee, take notes about it, and improve from there. This brewer is a good platform for learning to control extraction.

Awesome lil pour over!
I love this little Kalita Wave. And it is the smaller one (the 155), good for a single cup. I usually brew about 250 grams of water through 15 grams of coffee. I generally prefer glass or porcelain as well as cloth filters, but I needed a set up that is good for traveling. A good rinse of the papers makes sure no paper taste ends up in my cup (I usually do about 120 grams of hot water through the filter and wave for a rinse and preheat). Do research to find a good recipe and technique (I’ve been a following the James Hoffman recipe for pour overs - 15 grams of coffee, 250 grams total of water, poured at 50 gram intervals (40 seconds for the first 50 gram bloom plus a swirl to saturate, adding 50 grams every ten seconds after that with another swirl after the final pour). Hope that made sense, if not, look up James Hoffman on youTube though he uses a V60 for that recipe, it works with the Kalita just fine.I highly recommend if you need something a little sturdier than glass for coffee on the travel!

Was ist los, KALITA?
