Believe me, I can tell that any bad reviews of this book means that the person hasn't actually read the book. They couldn't have. Here's my take on the book. (Btw, I've been a librarian for 26 years, I think I know a good book when I read it). What an inspiring story! I finished this book in one day because I couldn’t put it down. Before you assume that all Peter Frampton had to offer us is the 1976/77 version of himself think again. I was just a young teenager when he became famous. My best teen memories include Peter Frampton’s “Do you feel like I do”, “Show me the way” and “I’m In You, You’re in me.” But there’s so much more to his incredible life. You will be able to relate to him in so many ways as he struggled through rejection, stolen royalties by numerous bad managers, a car accident that nearly severed his arm and ended his life, multiple marriages and divorces, drug but mostly alcohol addiction, being absolute;y financial broke, the death of so many great rockers of day and the grief of losing parents, the list goes on. Being pigeon-holed as a teeny-bopper rocker was devastating to him. All he wanted was to play guitar, not even sing, just play. But he kept on getting up and putting one foot in front of the other and as a result has an absolutely amazing life when you read what he’s accomplished in the last decade. If you need inspiration with any part of your life (it doesn’t have to be music related) this is a perfect book. I owe it to him to write this review because his challenges and setbacks are so familiar to me as well (minus the rock star side). I learned so much about the music he was apart of that I knew nothing about previously. Being in elementary school when he was a member of Humble Pie I wasn’t familiar with his pre-Frampton Live days. Everyone who enjoys the memories and music of 70’s rock or the great Rock, Blues, Jazz greats of all eras will love this book. I learned about so many great musicians that I’m just now (at age 60) looking up on Youtube in order to listen to them. The greatest thing you come away with (at least I did) was what a genuinely great-hearted, beautiful soul Peter Frampton truly is. Although he often refers to his success when he was just starting out as “based on his cuteness” what I’m not sure he realizes is that it wasn’t just his external “cuteness” that a large portion of us females recognized and loved (as well as men). It was the heart and soul of Peter Frampton that made him beautiful and still makes him beautiful. He takes you through the highs and lows of his life and holy cow has he had them! As well as the more recent devastating prognosis of IBM ( Inclusion body myositis) which has sadly ended his touring days. He’s helped so many people in so many ways and united so many musicians. I came away learning that it doesn’t just take great musicians to form a great band, it actually takes really good-hearted, generous and loving musicians who also happen to be talented musicians. My favorite quote in the book refers to his life with the band ‘Humble Pie’. He says, “Wow, that’s me now. I can feel it; I’ve invented me, by listening to the world.” That quote hit me in a unique way. I don’t know if Peter Frampton will ever read this review but if he does I’d just like him to know how grateful I am that he wrote, “Do You Feel Like I Do? A Memoir”. I will be buying a copy for my musician brother for his birthday.
