Protective, Grippy, and High Quality
Hello, I’ve been using this case for about 3 days now and really like it! It feels very durable, (though time will tell) I love the magnetic folio piece and the fact that my iPad is still protected even with that cover off at any time, and I really like the Apple Pencil charging and still stored where Apple intended it to be, but with the added flap to hold it securely. I’ve attached a bunch of photos and a video to help show you what this case has to offer and I hope they help you! The buttons are all very easy and satisfying and they have a good firm clicking sound I like still. The inner part of the folio isn’t that soft actually as I thought it would be, but I think that it is better this way with the rubber feeling texture instead as I think it should be easier to clean with a damp clothe if needed. I love the grippiness that the case gives when I’m holding my iPad, especially when I don’t have the folio on and I am drawing or playing games. It helps me be more comfy holding my iPad and not worrying about dropping and breaking it as much. The cutouts for the speakers, microphones, and charging port are very good and I like that the charging port cutout is a bit bigger to ensure any adapter can fit in. I like that this case is relatively thin for having two pieces, but the iPad and case with the folio on does make it all pretty heavy. Without the folio it’s not as heavy though! The vertical standing position is cool, but for how huge and heavy my iPad is, i don’t fully trust the stand and it just seems like it could tip over backwards too easily. I would highly recommend this case for the design, the high quality, and the features. Sincerely, Leah Dykema - ESR customer since 2017

You should try this
These are crate cases for iPads. They resist where. Are great for protecting your iPad. I have three iPads and all three of them have an ESR case. They carry my Apple Pencil and have a flap that goes over the Apple Pencil to keep it attached to the iPad.

Super adaptable case with some small nits
I’ve been buying ESR cases for my iPads for years - and they’ve always lasted longer than iPads themselves (or at least until I trade up). Naturally I stuck with what I knew. So this case is super adaptable. In short, it’s like the Apple folio, but with a detachable magnetic case that provides much needed edge protection. But because the case is detachable, it allows you to mount it portrait orientation for reading documents. The cherry on top is that there’s a third way to use it - lay the cover flat, and use the indents from the folding cover to stand up the iPad. This third way is super underrated. I use it often in scenarios where you’re not on a super stable surface - your lap on a couch, beanbag, or bed. I expect the detachable case does add some extra weight. But in my view it’s a great trade off for the flexibility you get. I have two reservations though, about this otherwise great case. The clasp is super secure; almost too secure. It’s hard to get the magnet to unstick, as there is nothing to grab on to for leverage. I end up grasping at the edge of the clasp for a second or two before I can get it undone. Second - I got the gray color, and while it looks great now I worry the rubberized material may not hold up well to wear and tear (including everyday wear like that clasp!). I have a sneaking suspicion scratches may show prominently over time but I’ll keep an eye on it and update later down the road. Previous ESR cases I’ve had were fabric finished - so this is definitely a change of pace for me.

The iPad Pro case!
Ok the good, the bad and the ugly on this case. The Good: Protection! I actually dropped my iPad the other day. Absolutely no damage. The pencil stayed attached. It was like it never happened. It is a perfect fit to the iPad. See the bad as it does take some good lining up to get the outer case to be in place. The inner case is nice and thin, and attaches very easily. You won’t have a need to remove the inner case frame, that is a major plus! The bad : I’m always trying to open this backwards. It seems like it should open the other way and I basically end up taking it out of the outer shell and have to put it back in. Which seems to be an exercise in wiggling it until you get it lined up just right. The Ugly: Something has gotten on it that I can’t clean off. So it looks like it has a stain. I’ve tried several cleaners and it still looks a greasy spot is on it. Not really a horrible thing since what ever is on it was my fault. But it I needed an ugly and it looks a little ugly because of the stain.

Better than Apple’s Smart Folio
Way more durable and easier to clean than Apple’s Smart Folio. Love the white color it’s beautiful but so easy to clean versus Apple’s so don’t be afraid to order the white one! I love that it securely holds my Apple Pencil even when tossed into my work bag or tote. Haven’t lost my Apple pencil yet so I think that says a lot. My favorite is the hard cover case for the iPad which provides 360 protection that the folder cover alone wouldn’t be able to protect. This is a key aspect missing from Apple’s Smart Folio which is why I appreciate and prefer this product to protect my iPad instead considering the iPad Pro is over a thousand dollars!! Plus Apple’s Smart Folio is over $100 with tax included. And for less than half the price of the Smart Folio you get 360 protection and more color options, so it’s a YES from me! In the future I would like more storage added so maybe a little pocket or pouch added to the outside, just enough to fit a small charging cable, small flash drive, or maybe additional Apple Pencil tips, then this product would truly be unbeatable!

Meets expectations - and more
Have only just received the case for my iPad, and so far it meets all my expectations - and then some. I knew the case would allow for the iPad to switch from landscape to portrait use, however I somehow missed that the iPad itself is encased in a separate piece that magnetically attaches to the wraparound enclosure. That’s entirely on me, and it’s a pleasant surprise to know my iPad is still fully protected even when turned to portrait. (Yes, I bought this thinking it would be exposed when turned to portrait, don’t judge me.) The flap for the magnetic closure is strong, and holds the apple pen securely in place. I am not worried about losing it in transit at all. In fact, it’s strong enough I have to use a fingernail to pry it open! Not complaining though, I’d rather it be strong than weak. Like other reviewers mention, it does fall forward when the cover is open, however I have tucked it behind the iPad. The weight of the iPad is enough to hold it in place, and I figure it will soften in time. I use a separate stand for my iPad, so most likely won’t be using the case as a stand, however I have tried it in various iterations, and it holds up well. It even handles use during drawing with Procreate, although it’ll definitely be an on-the-go situation. There’s a bit too much bounce otherwise. Overall, a great purchase. Highly recommend, especially at half the cost of anything offered by Apple.

An Unbiased/Honest Review - Please Read
The multiple negative reviews really scared me. But I spent 2 days and looked at other cases from different manufacturers. All of them have positive and negative reviews. So, I had to gamble and pick one. So, I picked this ESR one. To be honest, I was quite worried about this gamble. As soon as I put the case on my iPad Pro 12.9. It fits like a glove. There are so many possible orientations, with landscape/portrait, or the felt-case inside-out/upside-down. I tried all different orientations. All of them work as described. I do not understand why there are so many negative reviews. The magnets are fairly strong. It could be stronger....but...my guess is that stronger magnet would make the case heavier. Anyhow, I tried to just hold the flipping cover side (above the sofa) and see if the iPad Pro 12.9 would fall. The magnet actually holds the iPad. But if I shake violently, the iPad actually fell. Good thing I did this experiment above the sofa. Well, I hope my kids would not repeat my act above the concrete floor. I don't think the case is heavy as many negative reviews described. The weight is reasonable because given its versatility/flexibility with detachable back case. In general, the case's weight is reasonable with iPad Pro. Apple Pencil 2 - many negative reviews indicated Apple Pencil 2 cannot be charged. I tried many times, taking it out and putting it back. I see my Apple Pencil 2 being charged all the time. I even waited for 2 hours to see if my Apple Pencil will be charged to 100%, and it did. Again, I don't know why so many people complained about Apple Pencil cannot be charged. Maybe ESR company modified and refined the design after many people complained initially? Maybe I bought the Nave Blue color. The texture and color looks like my other original Apple iPad Air case, so I "hope" it doesn't show as dirty as my lighter color ones. Time will tell.... The ONLY negative side about this case....is....the "price". I wish this case could be somewhere around $38 to $40, comparing to many other cases are under $30. Price was the biggest reason I hesitated. But now, I kind of have to accept it because this case has more parts and the case gives you many options (landscape/portrait) to use my iPad. One more thing....this case does not have weird odor/smell like some other cases I tried. I guess this could be another positive.
