Perfectly legible and brilliantly intuitive--use it to avoid purchasing a defective guitar
This is the second Baroque String Action Gauge I've purchased because I gave the first one to another guitar player who loves it, too. He is a machinist by trade. The Baroque String Action Gauge is a high quality piece by the highest manufacturing standards: legible markings, intuitive, durable in frequent use, scaled in both millimeters and thousands of inches--your choice based upon your comfort (Stew Mac separates the scales on to two separate gauges--totally ridiculous and terribly expensive). Use this scale to learn the language of setups with precise measurements that reveal whether or not a guitar neck is defective. Quickly use this string action gauge to also identify guitar manufacturers' tricks that conceal defective necks and sloppy fret jobs. Also ignore YouTube reviewers telling us what to buy. They are lining their walls with free guitars from guitar manufacturers who require final approval of their "unbiased reviews" before you and I are allowed to see the uploaded version. So, these editing conditions suppress the whole truth about the "great" guitars. Use this string action gauge so you can to reveal guitar necks that are an unplayable mess that can not be fixed. Fender research claims 90% of all its guitars purchased are no longer played by the purchaser after one year. Have you measured the string height above the 12th fret of a new Fender guitar at Guitar Center lately? Surprise! 90% of the new Fender guitars' string height is so insanely high about the frets that they will make my fingertips bleed after 5 minutes of playing! Measurements with this string action gauge will reveal these problems. Another suggestion. Why not buy a 21st Century Schecter guitar built in South Korea and enjoy a buttery smooth playing experience rather than buying a primitive guitar that was designed back when George Washington was still in diapers. That is what I did.

Much better than nothing
This is much better than your eyeballs, but it's not the most precise tool in the world. By hundredths of a millimeter, the measurements and rectangular shape are imperfect. Additionally, the chrome finish makes it quite difficult to read in all but the most ideal lighting. Even so, this is good for most purposes.

It's A Must-Have To Do Setups
The 'ruler' is of good quality and the case fits nicely. As to whether it is accurate I have no idea. The point is I now have a point of reference that is always repeatable. If you do your own setups it's a no-brainer to own.

Silver markings can be hard to read
I was hoping this would have white markings to better legibility than the paint being etched away to metal. Depending on how light hits the tool, it can be hard to read.Feature-wise, it packs a punch and has a fret height measurement that other string gauge rulers don't have. In general, I think it's a good, utility tool, but I have to take stars off for the most crucial feature....legibility. YMMV
