My parents travel a lot and have one of those world maps hanging in my dad's office with colored pins in all the places they've been, so when I saw this I thought it'd be a great gift. It comes rolled up in a cardboard tube like a poster, with a protective paper inside to prevent any of the gold areas from accidentally getting scraped off. I laid it out on a poster frame to help flatten in out. It came with a red scraping tool (for fine detail scraping), a blue brush, and something that looks like a guitar pick (for large scraping areas). From the picture on Amazon I saw that it was also supposed to come with a ruler/magnifier and 6 little mounting discs, but mine didn't have those. I contacted the seller and he apologized and got the missing pieces sent out. Missing pieces is more of a customer service issue so I'm not going to take stars off my rating for that.The poster material also feels thicker than I expected, almost like it's laminated or has some kind of coating on it. The color in Amazon's pictures make the scrape-able areas look orange, but they're really more gold, like commonly seen scratch off stuff. The map is VERY details, with not just countries but cities as well, and not just capitals but popular tourist cities and tons of tiny islands... they also Show where the Titanic sank! This thing looks really nice and now I think I should actually get a frame for it instead of just pinning it to the wall like their other map.

Really great map! Its an easy scratch off which has borders around countries so its easy to scratch off one state or country at a time. If you scratch too hard it will scratch through the paper so be careful to use the flat side of the etching pencil. Everything comes inside a packed shipping tube so it doesn't bend, but it is hard to get it to lay flat without glass on top of it. I wanted to pin it to a cork board so that I could pin things to the map as a scratch portions off but it takes time to flatten the map with heavy books so that it lays flat on a pin board. Other than that the map is really well made, strudy thick material, and easy to scratch off. I would definitely recommend this item for a traveler friend or family member.

The map arrived well protected and in perfect condition. This is important because the surface is quite fragile, but the packaging is a cardboard tube which gives great protection.The map is very detailed and the awesome thing is that when you scratch off visited countries the map reveals even more details, like cities, mountains and rivers.I've not glued at the wall - just pinned it directly on the drywall and it works great. It's still easy to keep scratching when attached to the wall, you just have to be a little bit careful not to scratch off neighbor countries, but with the enclosed tools it's quite easy.I was really curious about the feedback from family and friends about this and they have been totally excited about it. Nobody has seen that before and everybody now wants to have one. Great buy!

This is a fun, gimmicky map - much more appropriate for kids than adults in my honest opinion. I'm an adult female, age 44. I've traveled the world and thought it would be fun to mark off the places visually. I found the scratching cumbersome and messy. It was fun, but difficult to make it look neat due to the lack of color contrast once the area was scratched off. It was also difficult to do on the wall - I would recommend having it taped down to a desk or surface rather than scratching on a wall. My map came with various scratches but that wasn't a result of lack of protection in shipping - the seller did an excellent job of packaging the item. I didn't realize that the mountains would have a topographic look once scratched off. I went to scratch off my home state of Wyoming and it didn't quite work...the color underneath wasn't showing up and looked dirty and dingy. I kept scratching and put a huge hole in the map. Once I revealed the full state I realized that the dingy look was actually the mountain range drawn underneath the coating. Oops - my bad. Many of the countries and islands showed a very pale yellow when scratched off. I would have loved to have seen more vibrant colors used for each area. In the end, I gave the map to my 9-year old son and his friends. They had a field day scratching off places they'd been and learning about places that hadn't visited. It made for great conversation and future travel dreams! Given the price, I'd highly recommend it as a gift for your tween or teenaged child. It helps you learn about our world in a fun way. The country flags were my son's favorite parts to scratch off because they revealed so much color underneath. I honestly wouldn't purchase this map for an adult, especially an anal one like myself. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a child!

Great world map in which you can scratch off places you have been. In addition, you can scratch off the flags on the bottom part. It comes with tools to scratch and a brush to clean off . It came in a poster tube which came in an Amazon box.The only things I can think of to mention is that the colors are very dark. It might've been a little more pleasing to the eyes if the black was blue. Also, keep in mind this is a poster that was rolled up in a tube. You might want to affix it to a piece of cardboard or something so it stays flat when you hang on a wall or a place on a table.

Map is good quality, but i was expecting brighter and more diverse colors of countries as I scratched them off. So far all the countries are yellow/orange/green and all blend together, so far I've scratched off US, Canada, Ireland, Italy, France, Norway, Mexico, Russa. I've spot checked some countries i haven't been to and they all seem the same color as well.

This is a lot thicker than I expected. The tube it comes in is recloseable and is very durable. Mine came with a brush, a red scratching tool, and a guitar pick (there are a few other accessories in the Amazon pic, but I don't mind that I didn't get them bc I ordered for the map, not the little stuff). My favorite thing is that when you scratch off the gold stuff the map underneath has labels and the main rivers/lakes drawn on. Highly recommended as a gift for the traveler in your life!

My daughter, who has grown up all over the world (Canada, India and Indonesia) and is continuing to travel on youth programs on her own now (Africa), absolutely LOVES this map. The colours under the gold are nice and the map material is sturdy. Although the little stickers don't seem to hold the map securely on the wall, pushpins work just fine. The tools are helpful and she is getting even more excited about the places she is now going to travel to in the future.

Me gustó mucho el mapa, pero al momento de ir rascando los países, te das cuenta que el color del fondo es muy similar al de la cubierta, por lo que no se notan! si van a comprar uno de este tipo verifiquen que el color del fondo sea contrastante, para que en realidad se distingan los países.

Love this map. Its a bit big so framing it someday might be tough but its fun to scratch places off and it looks great. Not a cheap quality map its durable and comes in a hard cardboard tube for storage.
