This project was completed by a kid.She was happy that you can choose the colors, and it was something the family can do together.The crystals grew just like the picture shows, and they are pretty durable (they won't crumble with a squeeze of your hand).The tree is about 2.5-3 inches tall, from the top of the crystals to the bottom of the 'planter'The planter/base is loose and the tree can easily tip over or falls out if tilted. You can fix it with hot glue, or stuff some padding inside to make the 'crystal tree' fit more snug. Consider adding some weight to the bottom of the 'planter' like a steel washer or something. It is an easy fix.The end result is a nice decoration and catches the light. I think that makes it worth the value, as it isn't just a disposable activity: you get a reward for the work! The instructions were simple to follow, but please note it does take 24+ hours to see results. You can see the crystals growing in the cups and the colors are vibrant & fun! It says to wait an additional 24 hours after removing from the liquid, but we only waited about 3 hours for a total of 27 hours for the project. It definitely requires adult help as boiling water is needed. Turned out exactly like what was advertised. Great gift idea!

1. Usually crystal kits mention what chemical compound is used and if it's ASTM compliant for toxicity, especially important for children's kits. Zilch. No information. Plenty of warnings to keep the powder away from food and to avoid ingesting, though. Makes me concerned about keeping the finished product around.2. One of the plastic cups started leaking. Soaked right through the cardboard box we were using to contain the mess. Thankfully found a glass jar.However, we needed two inexpensive sets of FAST growing crystals for a school science experiment, so this is what we got.Instructions were relatively easy to follow.

bought this for my seven year old daughter & she LOVED it !! she loved experimenting with these, & seeing the process of the crystals (trying not to spoil to much!!) a perfect gift for learning, while also getting a cute three set of pretty crystals to display - would like nice on a shelf or windowsill ! perfect little thing to let your kid do alone OR a perfect together craft for bonding & learning !perfect for elementary ages & up, heck, i think adults would enjoy this as well ! science experiments are never a bust !
