First off I really like the handle construction. It's somewhat squared which allows you to keep it indexed. Not that it entirely matters with a round rod but it keeps it from rolling. I used it to tune up my Kuma chefs knife, My mother's Rachael Ray santuko, and her Giada De Laurentiis chefs knife. The Rachael Ray knife in perticular had a horribly rolled edge and the Kuma honing rod allowed me to straighten it back out nicely. Here is a pro tip. If you've never used one before get on youtube and google how. Don't do what you see chefs do on TV because that's all pretty much incorrect. I found a channel called Burrfection that has been invaluable when it comes to taking care of my knives. It's also where i found out about Kuma. So if you have chefs knives with steel that isn't incredibly hard. (Japanese style knives tend to have a VERY hard heat treat) then get yourself one of these.

Bought this for a gift for my father, a tool that he was defiantly in need of, many of the knifes that he owns have seen their fair share of dishes-past and have dealt with the abuse that is always paired with in cooking. But after some time, the knifes that my dad owns, have became a bit dull and on the verge of being a pain in the butt. No one wants a blunt knife in the kitchen; dull knifes can cause the food your preparing to become pancakes or, a mushy pulp. Especially, the cook. No cook, wants to be an ingredient of a dish because they were a bit ill minded of forgoing proper maintenance on the knifes they use everyday. Because of this I suppose, regardless on how long we've danced around without one, up until now, my father will never have a dull moment in his life now that he has this in his block.

I have been using a Henckel's pull-through sharpener for years, which puts a good edge on my knives. I purchased this sharpener because it's not possible to sharpen the full length of the blade on my kitchen shears, which don't come apart for sharpening. Not only does this sharpener allow me to sharpen the full length of the kitchen shear blades, it vastly outperforms the pull-through sharpener on all of my knives. This seems to be well-made, it's easy to use, and above all, it works well.

So glad I took the chance on this excellent product. It is of superior quality, works very well and is easy to use, plus just happens to match the rest of my knife set in the block---which all have the same black-silver handle design with rivets. Also, it actually fits properly inside the specified hole drilled for this tool, whereas my previous honer -- over 20 years old -- did not and stuck out like a sore thumb. Especially like the finger guard just above handle which protects vulnerable digits when sharpening. The price is quite reasonable especially when compared to similar items. I know as I searched for a long time to replace my original tool.

It works. I primarily use (2) knives. I had an older, 3rd, dull knife that I had not tossed. I used this sharpener on that, 3rd knife, ( and I sharpen almost every use ), it worked, that first time, noticeably. Sharpening every other time, even for a few swipes is all that should be needed, if at all. But again...this sharpener works. I like the slightly heavier weight. I like that it's sturdy. AND...I like that it simply fits in the drawer. ( I chose against a counter type, sizable sharpener. ) Bottom line, I recommend this sharpener...for several reasons. Very happy with the purchase.

I'm very happy with my purchase, it has nice weight and a very solid build it also feels good in hand. So good that I went through my kitchen and sharpened just about every knife I got my hands on. In the process, I found knives I had stop using simply because they weren't sharp. Now they all have a nice sharp edge....so sharp that I actually had to return them to their cases/sheaths for my own protection. Buy this sharpener, you won't regret it. I’ve tried other sharpeners and this is the best one by far. If you’ve never used this type of sharpener I suggest buying a cutting glove until you get the hang of it. All my kitchen knives cut like they are new now. Highly recommended.
