How much better is this than an Ryzen 7 3700X?

I had a 3700x and upgraded to the 5800x3d.  I feel it runs alot better than the 3700x when gaming.  I don't have specific benchmarks but I do feel like games do run smoother.  I have it paired with a geforce 3060.

New asus dark hero mobo, should i flash bios or just load normally into my windows 10?

Depending on when the board was manufactured, it's current BIOS may not fully support this new chip. You can try booting to Windows and if that doesn't work, update the BIOS.

In general (If your board has a BIOS update to support it) the 5800X3D should make the whole computer overall faster than it was with the 3700X. If your RAM is not very fast, say 3200 or less...or if it has a high CL of 18-22 (or both), the added cache on the X3D chip can make a substantial difference across a range of programs. Clock speeds are similar on paper but Ryzen 5000 does more work at the same speed. For comparison a plain Ryzen 5600X will compare very well against the 3700X despite having two fewer cores, and in some cases can give 20-30% increase in eSports games at 1080p. The 5800X3D can sometimes get another 20-30% boost on TOP of that, but not in every title.

That is to say, with a big GPU like the 3080, gaming at 1080p should feel smoother overall and in some - not all - cases you will see from 15% to 50%+ increase in FPS at 1080p. If you wish to play at 1440p your experience should also be similar. If you intend to play games at 4K there will not be as big of difference in FPS, but there should still be less sensation of freezing or lagging. The newer architecture and bigger cache are better able to cope with funkiness in the game engine.

Will this cpu be better than my current 5950x in gaming and minor stuff, or stick with what i have?

Don't listen to anyone who gives you performance metrics in raw FPS, while assuming you'll see the same performance in every game. Performance just doesn't work like that... never has. Framerates and framerate gains will vary from game to game, screen resolution to screen resolution, and from setting to setting. BTW, LTT is a miserable place to get benchmarks. There are too many fanboys that will lie to you because they don't understand how benchmarks work.

On average, the 5800x3d is 12% better on average than a 5950x.... and that's considering your Graphics card is a high end card like the 3090ti. You won't see as good of results if your Graphics card is an RTX 3060 or 2060.

Cyberpunk at 1080p with an RTX 3080: 5950x=116fps, 5800x3d=117fps
CS:GO: 5950x=632fps, 5800x3d=581fps
Farcry 5: 5950x=140fps, 5800x3d=198fps
The V-Cache in the 5800x3d makes it way better at some games, but because the 5800x3d is clocked lower, it makes it worse in other games. Ryzen's problem in gaming, and the reason Intel was beating Ryzen until Zen 3 is because of Zen's cache limitation..... which the V-Cache fixes.
