Q: Is the microphone on this clear/sound close when using for a call? (I have the original 1st version of this speaker and it's not clear at all)

I have the 1st mini and use it all the time for my zoom / Teams meetings. Only once was my voice poor. I unplugged and plugged it back in and everything has been fine since. You may want to try a new cord. The 1st mini used the order style charging end. Good luck!

It seems to work while plugged in and charging as well as from the built-in battery if it has charge in it.

Q: if i use an audio jack/type-c adapter, can i use the speaker without bluetooth?

Probably not. The User Manual calls it the USB-C Charging Port and makes no mention of use as an audio input. To confirm, you could send an email to service at soundcore dot com. As a comment, it sounds so good with Bluetooth, especially with the Custom EQ setting shown in my review) that there's not much reason to use a cable for audio input.
