Decade

The book itself is gorgeously put together, but this is a coffee table book. And I don't like my coffee table books to have ugly green labels stuck right to the cover telling me about what's inside! I erroneously thought that the label shown in Amazon's photo of the product was either 1. easily removable or 2. stuck to shrinkwrap. I attempted to remove the sticker, but it is nearly impossible. I didn't want sticker residue left behind, so the sticker remains."Every event clearly explained" says one bullet point. "Sequel to Phaidon's New York Times best-selling Century" says another. I don't want advertising like that clearly displayed on the cover. For a book that focuses on photography, you'd think the cover would have received more attention.

One of the criticisms of the photographic book, "Century" was that it was too USA centric. This book is certainly more balanced in its coverage, covering a wide swath of the world's events. People who want to avoid violence and gore (another criticism of Century) should not buy this book either, as tragedies are the "stuff" that makes the daily news cycle. My only wish is that "Decade" would have included events that occurred at 2010's end.

Worried about the sticker on the cover, but able to get off with a bit of muscle!

I gave this to my dad for Christmas. I didn't get to look through the book myself, but the pictures I saw online for it really caught my interest. It is a big, heavy book. Perfect for a coffee table book if you want something to look at while sitting on the couch.

Decade provides a great history of the years 2000 - 2010. I liked it alot. The pics are really good. Alot of things happened in this ten year period and this book not only provides some great pics but provides explanations of each one to provide context. It is also not just restricted to things in the USA but global events are convered as well which is good as I am from Australia. A great addition to my own library.
