Technical Shutter Release Cable

okay, look...it takes a couple of minutes to look at the instructions and figure out the way this works. Maybe do that before rushing to write a bad review about how you can't make something work. Yes, out of the box, it appeared that the cable was locked in the fully depressed position, and would not spring back, but read the instructions, fiddle with it a little, and...jeepers, works like a charm! And yeah, the cable extends a good inch and a half - but who's forcing you to push the plunger that far? Plus, I believe the camera button would simply stop the extension without any damage being done... unless you're just DETERMINED to push that plunger ALL THE WAY - and if that's how you treat equipment, I don't think your gear is going to last very long anyway. Sorry to be so harsh, but figure things out before rushing to write a bad review.

Pretty Decent Quality

Standard mechanical cable release. Well made, reasonably priced.

The remote shutter definitely works as pictured, but has a few strange quirks. For starters, the locking mechanism is a bit confusing, and takes a few minutes to understand. Essentially, the "lock, unlock" directions are printed on a part that doesn't actually lock the tool, but rather they describe what to do on another, smaller part directly above them. The metal button pusher thingy, for lack of a better word :p, extends out a good 3/4 inch, which seems to be a bit excessive for how small camera shutters tend to be. It doesn't really *do* anything poorly because of this, it just seems like a poor design choice. By far the most annoying thing about this product is the cap for the bar you push down to activate the shutter. I don't know why it's built this way, but the cap comes separate from the entire part, and has to be screwed on. It is EXTREMELY loose, and tends to fall off if left unattended. If I were to ever lose this part, I'd have to stab myself with the metal bar in order to activate the shutter, which is pretty painful. I'd recommend that you super glue this part if you are afraid of losing it.

This a very nice mechanical shutter release for any one who can use one. Unfortunately, I discovered my very new camera could use a mechanical release -- only an electronic one.

Recommendation: including a guide book wouldn’t hurt! An inexpensive little miracle that never leaves my camera bag! When you learn how to release it, it’s the most comfortable and reliable thing you have in your bag! Now I’m doing long exposure in my night photography and I love it so much!

I was a bit confused on how to use it at first but I managed to get it working on my Nikon FM10. So for those who have something in that similar lineup of Nikon brand model cameras there’s a good chance it could work on yours too. Just check to see if there’s a tiny hole on your shutter button that works for shutter release cables. That’s my two cents.

So many of these reviews on here well they clearly don't know what they are doing. This is incredibly easy to use and works well if you have common sense. Reading some of these reviews, you'd think that a person needs to hire NASA to figure this thing out. Not the case. Hooked it up to my Canon AE-1 P and it worked a real treat. Tested it several times and never an issue. I bought it because a fellow photographer lent me his and figured for the price why not. The quick release is quite nice as it will end the shot really fast when using it on a film camera. I'll admit the chrome plating is a little cheap but for the cost I can't complain. Don't hulk turn it into your camera and it won't break. You do NOT need it ridiculously tight into the shutter button to work. Just barely snug is fine. If you hulk tighten it in yea it will break I'm sure, so don't. It's not meant for that. Beware of all the bad reviews on this because it is very clear they just want to whine because they weren't smart enough to figure out a device so simple that a toddler could use it. You don't need instructions to use it. Use a little common sense and it will go a long way. Overall I am pleased with it but of course will upgrade to a German shutter release cable later on but at $80 for one of those, I figured this would suffice for now and it definitely has.

I was warned to spend more money on a better cable release because the cheap ones would be really stiff. This cable release is quite flexible so I’m not worried about introducing camera shake. The bulb-lock works well.
