Healing Hazel: The Blue Orchid Society, Book 3

All the feels!!!
"This kiss changed everything. It changed him, deepening the emotions he already feared had grown beyond his capacity to manage....He sighed. Hazel deserved better than this."Each book I read in this series instantly becomes my new favorite!! Hazel dreams of becoming a nurse when she meets Dr Jim Jackson under intense circumstances. But it leads to them working together and learning to trust each other. I love the way Jennifer writes! The world building is lush and beautiful - you can imagine it all in your mind. The characters are real and flawed but that's what you connect with the most!"Hazel sighed. She’d thought the deepest desire of her heart had been to be a nurse, but that was before she’d met Dr. Jim Jackson, and she feared her heart would never recover."This story has all the feels! You laugh at the banter, squeal at the tension and kisses, and cry during the absolutely heartbreaking moments. I couldn't put this one down! I think I binged this series in less than a week! Trust me - just read them all!! They're fantastic!!!

An enjoyable, sweet romance
HEALING HAZEL is a story about an English woman finding what she's made of and her place in the world. She battles panic attacks and wants to become a nurse, but her path has some challenges especially when she finds herself stuck in war torn France. It's also a story about an American doctor with his own fears and challenges who finds himself intrigued by this woman whose appearance makes her look like she should be attending balls in society. It's a story of the beginning of the International Red Cross as they try to establish themselves as a neutral party of aid for all. A genuine lovely story of two individuals with the chance to fall in love set during an historical period of challenge and change.I have really enjoyed this series so far and have been looking forward to each subsequent book and another lady of The Blue Orchid Society. Hazel's situation is a bit unique as she has a military father stationed outside England, deals with panic attacks and has been attending a school for nurses. She's unsure of her place and herself, but she finds that she has more mettle than she imagined. It was fun to see her grow and develop as the story progressed and the spark that started with a certain doctor as they worked together. Dr. Jackson was very likable and it was fun to have an American in this story since that's not overly common in historical romance set in England or Europe. He was a strong character with his own demons to deal with and was doing his best to push the cause of the Red Cross forward. I also found it highly entertaining as he tried to resist his feelings toward Hazel as the spark grew. I think my only complaints would have to do with a bit of a slow beginning and the story feeling told to me in a few places when the author was trying to weave through historical facts instead of feeling immersed as much as I prefer. There were several other side characters as well as an ongoing war that added plenty to this story, but Hazel and Dr. Jackson were definitely center stage and I enjoyed their journey immensely. In the end, was it what I wished for? This was a quick read, full of historical facts, set during a turbulent time with a sweet romance. Definitely recommended to fans of the author and genre!Content: Clean.Source: Purchased my own copy.

Fascinating history combined with a darling romance, Healing Hazel will quickly be a favorite.
"Help the sick, Hazel," Nella said in a quiet voice. "That is a nurse's calling."This latest installment in the Blue Orchid Society series is a beautiful book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.Hazel Thornton has trained to be a nurse, but her fear of and reactions to being an enclosed space prevent her from completing her training. As she travels to spend Christmas with her father, an explosion sends Hazel into the middle of a war and the Red Cross effort. At a Red Cross hospital, she meets a standoffish (and handsome) American doctor—Jim Jackson. Together, can they help the people around them and avoid the heartache of war?Healing Hazel is full of amazing, realistic, and relatable characters; lovely and immersive descriptions; and a tender romance.Hazel was absolutely my favorite character (although, so many of them were a delight to get to know). She is strong and capable and incredibly compassionate. Her experiences, fears, and desires made her feel so real to me. I would love to sit down with her and get to know her better.Doctor Jackson is a bit of a curmudgeon at first, but I found that I really liked him. His begrudging respect and growing fondness for Hazel softened his character and made him seem more human and relatable.Their love story has a little bit of the grumpy/sunshine trope (which I love), and was delightful and tender.Beyond the love story, the medical details and practices were fascinating. I learned so much about how they did things back then, and the procedures were the perfect balance of descriptive without being terribly graphic.Overall, this book is an absolute delight, and I would recommend Healing Hazel to anyone and everyone.Thank you to @covenant_com for the complimentary copy.
