Q: Can you put these on hiking boots to deter bears?

You could if you threaded the laces through the leather cuff. It is loud but I doubt it would scare a bear. I use it on my dog so I can hear where he is. I slide it in to his collar

I got these bells to keep track of my Lab while pheasant hunting. It’s loud enough for me but I think if I need to purchase another I would get a cow bell. When we hunted in the winter snow would get inside the bell and hang up the ringer inside
