Devotions For Dating Couples: Building A Foundation For Spiritual Intimacy

Buy. This. Book. My Boyfriend and I were struggling. Before this book, we were praying together and attending church as much as possible together, but we live some distance away from each other and have busy family schedules that just didn't allow us to really "get on the same page" - both Bible Believing, Evangelical Christians, both attended higher level Christian education institutions, we just had some things that probably would have never been addressed unless we read this book. This book covers a new topic every week, with scripture and a short note (usually a page and a half to two pages) and space to write in the book, (though larger sticky notepad was sometimes a better option). This very thought provoking book lead my boyfriend and I to consider several areas in our lives and the way we look at the world! This was the perfect format for us to get individually spiritually nourished, but also come together to discuss theology, wildly issues, relationships and roles. My Boyfriend and i would read through the week and spend time together just the two of us to go back over each day's notes- it was amazing how I honestly thought we would get the same thing, and we would pull different things out, but I loved how it made both of us be intentional and accountable about our time, and made us pray about certain issues together. If you are single, get it! The content is great, and all except for the "purity" portion, good way to get into reading every day. If you are two adults or college students dating- get it! It will seriously help you two grow together! If you are married, get it! You will need a copy for each person, as you probably don't have the time to pass it back and forth, plus this made it easier take notes in- which it was intended for! And if you are the author or publisher of this book, CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE MORE!?!? I have been searching high and low for another book similar with similar content- good Bible references, and such a great format! Nothing else cuts it. I really don't think you will be disapointed!

This is a great devotional for engaged and married couples or those who are a bit further in their relationship. Its major strength is how it leads couples to focus on God - building the eternal relationship and making Christ the center and foundation of the marriage. However, it's certainly not for new relationships. While the authors emphasize this throughout the text, it's tempting to overlook but not without consequences. I will share one or two reasons to substantiate this.1) When couples read this after making the crucial decision to tie the knot or get engaged, the devotional becomes an invaluable guide in helping them focus on God's love and how to spur one another in love unto deeper spiritual growth.2) On the contrary, new relationships risk healthy spiritual growth when couples start off by reading the devotional together since it likely will lead to strong physical and emotional attachment that could derail the imperative of focusing on Christ Jesus. In other words the two would be getting ahead of themselves. One or both may be tempted to hold off the need to build their personal relationships with Christ apart from each other. Consequently they live under the ruse of making themselves available for the devotional as a way to convince the other person of their 'spirituality'. Sooner or later, reality sets in and the spiritual depravity becomes evident.Will I recommend this book? Yes, of course, I highly recommend it to all Christian couples. I only caution this should be read at the appropriate time. Feeding on the right information at a wrong time could be potentially devastating to the longevity of the precious relationship.

I was looking for a good devotion book for my girlfriend and I. We are seriously dating and have a hope in the future for marriage down the road. Keep in mind this book even mentions in the introduction it is only designed for couples that would have a hope for a future marriage together in the future. As I was doing my research I was intrigued by a different approach than most couples devotion book series. Something that was very important to me was the ability to improve my own relationship with God as well as my relationship with my Girlfriend and our foundation of having God at the center of our relationship. Combining all these things into one book would normally be a very challenging thing to accomplish. The thing I like most about this series is the fact that there are individual devotions it directs me through every day for my own personal relationship with God. On top of this the devotion is designed for me to meet once per week in a devotion setting with my significant other and have a discussion from the topics we studied through out the week. This truly allows for me to grow all 3 facets of relationship I mentioned above. I would highly recommend this book to any serious dating couple.

I might be missing something, but nothing in this study seemed couple specific. My gf and I tried it for 3 weeks, and thought it meh together, but I finished it by myself as a normal Bible study and really enjoyed it! So I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to grow deeper with God, it should still improve your relationship, since you will both hopefully grow closer to God, and by default, each other, but if you're looking for something geared specifically to a dating relationship or couples, keep looking.
