All the edges are smooth, including the hand grip cutout.

Q: What are the dimensions of this item? Length, width, depth, usable width?

Here are the dimensions: 27 inches by 27 inches overall on the outside; usable width between the side rails is 26 inches; the side rail is 1 1/2 inches high; the main portion with the side rail is 21 3/4 inches long; the top part without the side rails is 25 inches wide and 5 1/4 inches long; the picture does not match exactly what I received. The hole for the handle is actually located at the top of the ramp, not the bottom; the ramp has a 3/8 inch lip, it is not a flat entrance or exit on the top and bottom; it weighs approximately 17 lbs.; it is rated to 750 lb. capacity; the model number on the one I received is ALCR; there is additional information on the underside: 1-800-MAGLINE(624-5463); www.magline.com

Q: Will this work with a curb height of 12"?

Yes, you can use the ramp on a big step or curb. Possibly lay it on 2 small steps together but would have to pull handtruck backwards up the ramp to be safe. You can use it as bridge/ plate between two platforms or like a dock plate at a loading dock too
