The Definite JS Pocket Reference
I’m preparing for a web certification and decided to pick up this book to better prepare for my exam. I really liked the way the book is organized and the examples helped illustrate the main ideas. If you are new to JS or a seasoned engineer, this book will definitely be a great addition to your library.

recommended even if it may seem outdated
I strongly recommend this - very complete guide - it is short yet does not miss any detail - it may seem outdated but actually this is an advantage from my point of view: if you write code following this book it will be compatible with all existing browsers and version out there (while if you use the latest cool feature in the language, you may need something like Babel to fill in the gaps)

Good organziatation for basics but none on the libraries available/
The strength of this book is the way each of the commands is organized so that there is a uniform way of presenting all the important information about each command. However, what is lacking is the references to all the JS libraries that have becomes so important in JS programming today/ But the commands and structure is excellent albeit a little dated.

Excellent reference
The concise format and small footprint of this book makes it the ideal quick reference on javaScript. I have the physical copy and the Kindle addition, and have made flashcards of each chapter in my Kindle edition. Really handy for review when on the go. If your looking for something authoritative and comprehensive, this is it.

Great for reference
Very informational, illustrations on how to do it very clear, but you need a JavaScript book if you are not familiar with these reference.

Great resource for those learning JavaScript
This book is really a great resource for those new to JavaScript. I carry this with me for my studies to become a front end web developer. Highly recommend.

So Disappointed
"Disappointed" is the only way I can describe this book.I am an owner of the 2nd edition, which is just wonderful, and I was very much looking forward to the 3rd edition, which supposedly would expand to include the new technologies that have emerged. It does indeed include the new technologies, but the entire book is no longer a "quick reference", but instead a mini version of a regular old technology chapter book.Really, if I wanted a chapter book, I would buy the regular version of JavaScript: The Definitive Guide. I wanted a quick pocket reference -- meaning that I already know how to program in JavaScript, and I want a quick reference to the various language constructs, objects, properties, etc.The 2nd edition was perfect for this. I could quickly flip through the book to find (for example) the methods of the Date object. If I want to do that with this 3rd edition -- wait a minute, I just tried finding even the basic info about the Date object in the Index, and it's not even there! So I was about to say I could no longer find it by quickly scanning the top of the pages, but now I have to change that to say that there is no place in the book that includes the various methods of the Date object.Want to know what properties and methods exist in the Regular Expression (RegExp) object? You can read a few paragraphs of text under the heading, "RegExp Properties and Methods", but there is no table of properties and methods. If you even want to track down this info in the book, you need to check the Index, or else be really good at scanning text as you flip pages.Again, if I wanted to learn JavaScript, I would not be buying this book, I would buy a full-blown JavaScript book. I wanted a quick pocket reference, and I did not get one.Bewildering and disappointing, especially after a really good 2nd edition.

Great product!
Great book. I bought 4 pocket reference books from O'Reilly (C# 6, Javascript, Python & Linux) and they are all constant, well structured and good reference. This book doesn't show you tips & tricks on how to get things done : they teach you on how the language is built, the core of it, basic keywords, operators, datatypes, etc. They also show basic libraries & functions.I really love O'Reilly pocket reference books. They're on my 1st shelve :-P

Pocket Size alternative for when Google not around
This is a small slightly off A6 sized book about 1.5 cm thick. It contains a huge volume of reference information for JavaScript and is ideal to carry round for those times when it's not possible or practical to use the net. It sits as a good companion volume to the much larger Definitive Guide to Javascript by the same author.
