Bohning 4" Bronco Vane

I have been shooting recurve bows for 67 years. Several months ago a friend gave me a dozen old aluminum arrows that once belonged to her deceased father. All of the original vanes were crunchy brittle or missing. I used these Bohning vanes to re-fletch those old arrow shafts and they look nice and shoot beautifully. I plan to use these arrows to hunt deer this autumn. Bohning typically makes good quality archery supplies and I am certainly pleased with the quality of these Killer vanes.

I just fletched about 30 aluminum arrows (needed 3 packs of these vanes). BE SURE TO CLEAN THE ARROW AND THE VANES WELL before cementing. All vanes probably have some oils or releasing agents on them from the manufacturing process. If you don't clean that off, they will release from the cement too! I used regular rubbing alcohol on a fine steel wool pad (just like the kitchen sink sponge/brillo combo) to gently scrub the fletching surface, then dried it on a paper towel (same thing with aluminum shaft), before applying cement and jigging the vane onto the shaft. Don't forget to dot the front and back of each vane with cement after removing the jig. I used Bohning's cement too. I screwed up one shaft and had to remove all three fletchings and re-do it. The cement had only been on the vanes/shaft about an hour, but the vanes tore before the cement would release the vanes! I had to carefully razor off all the cement and vane bits. It was significantly harder to remove these vanes than it was to remove the old vanes that were on the shafts when I started. The final results appear excellent to me. After a week of curing (probably only need a couple days), I tugged on the fletchings (not gorilla tug, just regular tug) and all appeared well stuck to the shaft with no give at all. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to shoot them yet, so I can't address any flight issues.

Good value for the money, flies fine for me!

I did a 3 fletch right Helical. With my Grim reaper 150gr broadheads and 125gr Ram cats the accuracy is identical out of my Mathews Triax at 65lbs. Ready to test on Elk. I tested out to 64yards. 2 arrows cut the fletching and were touching.

I bought these to re-fletch my old arrows that were in storage for over 20 years and had become so brittle they broke and fell to pieces when I grabbed them. They worked great and I have no complaints. I do recommend these vanes.

Easy to glue in place . These vanes are pliable and take rough handling well (i.e. pulling arrow from target).

Restored a box of arrows with these and the associated glue. They do the job. Not overly large or long. Nice, bright color for visibility.
