That is what this box set is. I think I may have seen some of the come back series in 1986. The original run is best. There is a truck load of witty one liners to be heard throughout this sitcom. Some of them would cause certain types to write phone or email complaints to the broadcaster these days if they saw them aired on TV. The thing is there is no malice in the dialogue used. The show makes fun of characters ignorance. It never once looks like it's promoting it.Below is a quote from Series Two Episode One. It contains the exact dialogue two characters say to each other. Ranjeet is Indian and Ali is Pakistani. Some of the comedy aspects come from these two guys. They are always bickering with each other. The quote below is where Ali Nadim is supposed to be marrying Su-Lee Chung. But in the end he doesn't.Ranjeet: "I am having a very funny though. He's Pakistani. She's Chinese. If they have a baby. It will be Pakinese"Ali: "I'll teach you not to be insulting. You ignorant son of a bearded p**f"I laughed out loud at Ali's come back. It was SO unexpected. I was surprised by what he said as I am used to today's comedy dialogue. Now by today's standards this is a no go for some. If you look at the PC mentality you can see exactly why it would be a no go for a sitcom today. The show isn't as bad as originally made out to be by it's company. That was why they cancelled the show after three series. ALL are included in this box set. Full and Uncut. The way old shows need to be kept.The show was popular in other countries. Particularly where the characters involved in the sitcom were supposed to have come from. Yet in the UK it was deemed offensive and stereo-typing etc etc. So it got kicked in the hairy bean bag. This sitcom is from the era where conservative mentality brought about the Video Nasties a few years after this was canned. And as most horror fans know the movies labelled nasty are very tame in most cases. The New York Ripper in it's uncut form (available via import) is like a Sunday afternoon movie. Compared to SAW or a Eli Roth movie. All of which get passed uncut with no fuss. Yet Ripper won't pass uncut in the UK.My favourite characters are Danielle she is so sexy. She's a French woman learning English in the class. And Ali Nadim this guy is comedy gold just like the show. I saw the actor on another sitcom called It Ain't Half Hot Mum. It's probably frowned upon as well today due to Michael Bates's character blacking his face to make himself look darker skinned. I've no issue with shows steering clear of this sort of thing now. But don't pick on shows from the past that do it. It shows how things were then and are now. There's no hate in all of these old shows. They are pure escapism like most other sitcoms. Let's face it the way things in the UK are at the moment. Escapism is needed and welcome when at home.My one and only complaint. In one episode it shows the union jack on a black board. The teacher (Barry Evans) said that the flag represents England. Does it really?.

I loved the Doctor at Large and Doctor in the House series, so I bought this one. Unfortunately, I didn't find it as enjoyable as the Doctors series..maybe because our sensitivities have changed since then.

I have enjoyed this DVD. This type of comedy is certainly not racist. This writer, Vince Powell and other comedy writers generally write comedy which is reflective of the period as in this in case it was the 1970s. The writer Vince Powell must have been inspired by a class teaching foreign students English and that was the reason why he produced and wrote Mind Your Language. This comedy is poking fun at the British people in some instances. Firstly in the English language some words are spelt differently but sound the same. The metaphors are used which are not literarily what they meant.This comedy shows the misunderstanding of the English language by foreigners and portrayed in a hilarious way. Secondly Mr Brown does not teach everything for the syllabus for lower Cambridge certificate such as the meaning of the metaphors and the language structure such as past participles etc. Instead he teaches very basic conversational English and asks the students to do homework instead. Mr Brown throws questions to the students on aspects of English language he has not taught and the students do not know how to answer. This humour shows that even the English as in the case of Mr Brown do not know how to communicate and teach English. Since this programme was made in the late 1970s, there were other issues raised such as asylum seekers, unmarried mothers, visa being expired, arranged marriages, evolution, feminism issues and its portrayal by Miss Courtenay. Women were portrayed as sex symbols such as Danielle Favre and Ingrid Svenson but they were more intelligent than the men. Gays were indirectly made fun off in an innocent way. Caricatures of British people were brought about such as cockneys, posh Earl of Barclay, the Scottish driver learning English, clash between class issues between Mr Brown and the former headmaster of the college because Mr Brown is working class and the former headmaster is middle class. The most hilarious aspect is the misunderstanding not only between Mr Brown and the foreign students but also the misundersstanding between the English people such as Mr Brown, Miss Courtenay and Sid the Caretaker. The three English characters do not understand each other. The foreign students were condemning each other's cultures but Mr Brown does not do that. I do not see any evidence of racism. In real life I have never seen any newspaper articles stating that Vince Powell and Barry Evans making any negative comments about other cultures. The DVD is popular in overseas countries more than in Britain so how can this comedy be regarded as racist? Racism is a form of aggression. This comedy is certainly not racist and it is just light hearted humour.

Loved the series, still funny and pleased with purchase!

I used to watch this series with my mother, and every episode brings back memories of us laughing and enjoying quality time before Dad came home from work.

This show is the best British comedy ever! I finally have my own copy, so don't have to keep watching on YouTube. Happy with the Super fast shipping!! Just 8 days from France.... Cannot wait for the weekend!!
