Cruising Companion Nylon Car Harness for Dogs, X-Small, Black

I looked at several options to secure my dog in the car, as I travel a lot. Most harnesses have the seat belt connected to it, limiting the range of motion the dog can have. This harness is perfect. The harness is easy to get on, and it has an additional "strap" that clips to the harness itself, and connects to the seat belt recepticle. My only complaint is that I purchased a large, and the seat belt connector isn't as long as pictured. It's adjustable, but fully extended, it's only 15" of so. It functions like it should, but I would have liked a longer length like depicted in the picture, since I have a larger dog (hence the reason for only 4 stars). That said, it's easy to hook and unhook the dog, and the strap can be used as a leash if needed for short breaks. I don't even think my dog knows she's connected, but it stops her from sliding off the seat and coming forward when I have to stop quickly. I just heard that NJ is requiring it's pets to be harnessed in a vehicle now - this is a great item to do that with!

**The reason I am posting this review before using is the box specifies that this harness DOES NOT FIT SAAB, Volvo or Ford Explorers. Thought I would save fellow pet lovers some grief if they happen to own these types of vehicles and are harness shopping. The box also says to "measure the pet's girth around the broadest part of the chest and add 2". If the measurement is between sizes or if the pet has a stouter build, select the next size up to insure proper fit". **I have not used this harness yet, but in taking it out of the box, it seems very well-made, sturdy and has a D-ring for leash attachment. Fortunately, I have one dog who sits perfectly still while riding in my Pathfinder, and think this will work great for her. I ordered XL because she weighs about 70 lbs. and is stocky in build. I will update and post the actual results once I use this harness on her and my other dog (who weighs in around 85-90 lbs.)

This is highly adjustable, which I felt was safest since my dog always seems to be somewhere between a sm and med. I like that you can use just the harness part with a leash, so you don't have to switch back and forth to collars. The only down side is there's no padding, so I'm not 100% sure how great this would be if you were in an accident, but it's certainly a far improvement over nothing. I mean, human seat belts aren't padded, and he's got so much fur that he has some built in padding. And for the price, I figured it was worth seeing if my dog would be ok with the idea, since he never used a walking harness or seat harness before. He was happy and walked for a long time with the harness with no chaffing etc. so I'm happy overall.

I bought one of these for my daughter for her 50 pound English Setter in her Toyota Camry. It does two things really well - keeps the dog safe and keeps it in the back seat (Sparky loves to ride "shotgun", slobber on the dash, and distract the driver, not good). Unfortunately, Sparky is a chewer and on the first long trip she managed to chew up the harness and escape. So I bought another one along with some  Grannick's Bitter Apple for Dogs Spray Bottle, 16 Ounces . After spraying the harness, the dog no longer wanted anything to do with chewing the harness (the spray does wear off after a while so it needs to be re-sprayed occasionally). An added thing to consider is a seat cover for the back seat such as  Solvit 62283 Deluxe Bench Seat Cover for Pets  that I bought for my daughter - it has straps to attach it to the backseat headrests and openings for the seatbelt buckles and sure helps save the back seat when the dog gets in the car after walking though dirt, wet grass and/or mud.

I purchased the extra small in pink for my 8.5lb dog. It fits perfectly and is adjustable, but I really don't need to use the harness anyway. If you don't usually keep your dog in its own harness than this product is perfect as is. I have my dog in a body harness already that stays on her so I can just attach the seatbelt part to her own harness and buckle it into the seat belt. The seatbelt strap is adjustable to you can give your dog a lot to minimal spare slack. My dog hated me keeping her in a carrier so I let her free roam in the car because she is small. I would drive with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding her down so she doesn't hurt herself every time i brake or turn. Now I can let her feel like she can free roam in the car and drive without worrying that she may fall. I love this product, just wish I could have just bought the seat belt without the harness for a lesser price.

I bought this for my 50lb Border Collie to ride in the car with me. He LOVES car rides... so much so that he tends to climb all over the car (including in my lap) while I'm driving, which is not safe for either of us! I bought this so we could both ride safely. He didn't like it at first, but quickly adjusted to it, and doesn't even notice its there anymore. It is of good quality and works great! The straps are heavy duty nylon and the seat belt buckle is metal, fits into both my car seat belts and my husbands truck. I originally bought the small/medium size for him, and it fits, but is a tad snug so I'm returning it and ordering the large just to give him a little room to grow. I imagine we will use this ALOT.

To me pet safety while riding in a car is very important. I Witnessed an accident in '92 where the Sheltie in the back seat was not restrained. The poor dog was thrown from one side of the car to the other. Thankfully she was ok. Since that day on I have tried to find a restraint that is easy to use and Bisbee escape proof. He thinks he is Houdini and wiggles out of them! I have tried numerous products thru the years then came upon this one. IT IS GREAT. Not only is it relatively simple to put on, the ease of connection is FABULOUS. With other products that connect around the seat belt strap, he would wrap himself around the seat belt making it very difficult to get him untangled and back out of the car. With this product, not so. You just click it into your seat belt connector and away you go! He has enough room to move for comfort but not to much to be a danger. (The connector strap for movement is adjustable.) Works great in my Kia Sedona and my hubby's Ram pick up. HIGHLY recommend it!
