Q: How sturdy is it ? How many wet towels will it hold do bars come out for easy storage

It is a very sturdy unit, depending on the size of towels you can hang up to six, we are in Florida so ours stays out all year and the bottom is filled with sand to keep it from moving. Not sure about taking of the endcaps to remove the bars.

Q: It is too short. Is it missing a pole? My towel hangs on ground. Can i get another pole to add length in height?

We fold our towels over it with no problems, we didn't get it from Amazon, ours looks very similar found it much cheaper locally here in Florida.

Q: How far off the ground in the lowest bar?

The lowest bar is about 41" off the ground, and the highest bar is about 47" off the ground.

Q: How much sand is needed to fill the base?

I just filled it with enough pool water that it does not tip over when hanging big beach towels.
