A big-city guy who came up the hard way. Now he's a maverick lawyer in a raw southwest town. Barry Newman takes his lumps-but manages to break the most baffling cases! Review: Petrocelli - a gem of a show. - I have waited a long time for the DVD release of this gem of a show from the mid-1970s. Set in the fictional town of San Remo - actually Tucson - it revolves around the seemingly impossible cases presented to Defence Lawyer Tony Petrocelli - a Harvard law graduate who has forsaken the city life of New York for the warm sun of rural Arizona. Barry Newman brings the role to life in a snappy, believable and, when the occasion allows, humorous way. Susan Howard shines as the supportive wife while he tries to build his career - and their house! - and Albert Salmi puts in some good support as the cowboy booted, Stetson crowned investigator for Tony Petrocelli. The show features a 'who's who' of 1970s TV drama - William Shatner, for example - and some well known names that later became better known for their work in movies - Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, to name two. David Huddleston deserves a special mention as the episodes in which he plays the local detective see a great rapport develop between himself and Tony Petrocelli. Two actors on top of their game, so to speak. As with many TV shows from this time almost everything is filmed on location. Tucson and the surrounding countryside is the 'set' and adds a pleasing, realistic dimension to the unfolding dramas. Finally, the theme music alone is a wonderful, uplifting, 'western-themed' piece by Lalo Schifrin. All in all, if you like 'classic' TV shows from the past - think 'The Rockford Files' and 'The Streets Of San Francisco' - I suspect this show will not disappoint. If only it had gone on for a few more seasons - then he might have finished building that darn house! Review: Surprisingly good - I kept passing this set by because the price was so good. I was not familiar with this tv program when it ran. Finally however, after reading all the good reviews, I finally gave in and purchased this set. I was so pleasantly surprised when I began watching these stories. They are really good. I like the character, the story lines, and am also pleased with the quality of the sound and picture on the DVDs themselves. I am really glad I made this purchase and can now enjoy watching this series along with my other old favorites. Great price for a good series. This is a good addition to my ever growing collection of old tv,series. Sure is good to be able to watch tv that is free of foul language, excessive sex, and excessive violence. So glad to have these options.

Fantastic! I'm so glad I can watch that series ...
Fantastic ! I'm so glad I can watch that series again. It was such a great series back in the seventies, so good I never forgot about it. If only there had been a re-make with continuance, then we'd know if he finally finished the house he was building. I wish they had TV series as good as Petrocelli on TV nowadays. There are few shows for adults worth watching. Much is created for young people exclusively. Who can identify ? People over 50 are not taken into consideration when it comes to entertainment being produced. We're left with watching re-runs of older TV shows with smart and clever writing, or great humor. Most importantly, marvelous actors like Barry Newman are really needed on TV, because there are no manly men with masculine voices on TV nor in movies anymore. Come to think of it, what actors of today have masculine low voices ? What actors still sound like MEN, outside of the much older actors ? When I grew up men had masculine voices and women feminine voices. That's another reason why I'm glad to be able to watch the series again. His voice, which I still remember. Phenomenal. Looking forward to watching Petrocelli

Love Pettrocelli!
Barry Newman was masterful as Petrocelli who was a crusading champion of the people in this two year series. This show entertained yet made valuable societal commentary without lecturing. The show lasted long enough to leave a legacy for fans of legal tv shows of quality.

Enjoyable stories
We like the stories, altho' we're not crazy about the Mrs Petrocelli character nor the actress who portrays her. The location is described as a small town in Arizona, but it seems to get bigger and bigger with each episode until it's now more of a small city. Looks like it was filmed in and around Tucson; nice scenery if you like deserts! Most of the action takes place outside the courtroom, and frankly the most interesting character is the ex-cop this lawyer employs as an investigator. Interesting glimpse into the 1970s, a time of truly bad hair and clothing (think polyester!), and the inception of political correctness. Entertaining when the stories avoid politics and race (some of these type stories are truly cringe-worthy). And who knew how dangerous it would be in Arizona for an ex-NYC lawyer -- seems like poor Petrocelli is always dodging bad guys. NB: If you are Italian, whether by birth or by choice, you'll want to smack this guy for his truly appalling pronunciations of Italian words! I often find myself yelling at the screen "That's NOT how you pronounce it!" We try to ignore the annoying stuff -- it's almost fifty years old so we look at it as "retro" -- and enjoy the stories.

A long waited release, I got it long before I expected my order to be delivered. It was actually for a friend and I know he will be delighted. The opening credits might be a little fuzzy on episodes but the programs are fine and the series is how I remember those 44 episodes way back then. Barry Newman as Petrocelli is good in the role and I remember him from the film, The Salzburg Connection, a film that also took a long time to make it to DVD. On that one I enjpyed the book as well when my friend loanded it to me. RECOMMENDED

I like these old shows from the '70s. It brings back memories of nicer times. Petrocelli (meaning 'Little Rocks'?) is a lawyer who escapes the New York rat-race for a small-town practice in San Remo, Arizona (filmed in Tucson). He lives in a desert trailer with his (very attractive!) wife while building his dream home, one brick at a time (although he seems to make very little progress!). I suppose the plots can seem a bit formulaic, as you know he will always triumph and get his client acquitted, despite overwhelming evidence. Still, I like the stories (with many flash backs showing different interpretations of the same evidence). The characters are likeable and there are many well known faces in guest rôles. The DVDs seem to be region free and play OK on my UK spec player. The picture is a current view of the building used as Petrocelli's office, at the corner of Congress and Scott Streets, Tucson. Recommended.
