Loving Mr. Daniels

5 Brillant, Breathtaking, Brillant, Blue Eyes Stars
Loving Mr. Daniels by Brittainy C. CherryReview 5 StarsI am putting it out there, I am a crier. I have always been told that I am a sensitive soul. I do not have a poker face because I wear my emotions like a cheap suit. I cry at sappy commercials, at grown men crying even though I don’t know why they are crying in the first place and I will cry if I am reading a book. I am a big cry baby. Many books that I have read have made me do the ugly cry, but Loving Mr. Daniels, the ugly cry was so extreme and it didn’t help that I was crying during my bus ride to and from work each time I read a gut wrenching chapter. Big buzz has been going around this book via book friends, this book has been sitting patiently in my IPad for some time. It waited until I finished my other reading obligations, so quietly and smoothly.Ashlyn Jennings is only 19 years old and dealing with the loss of her twin sister, Gabrielle. Couple with her loss, she is shipped off to Wisconsin to live with her estranged father, whom she hasn’t lived with since the day he left oh those many years ago. With her, she’s carrying a treasure box that her sister has left for her and in it a bucket lists and for each list there is an accompanying letter that she gets to read. But before she gets to her destination and while she’s mourning for her sister, on the train is a boy, yet not that young, yet not old enough to be a man so she gives him the nickname banmoy. He’s Beautiful, Breathtaking, Brilliant, Blue Eyes. As soon as the train arrives at her destination, she notices banmoy and he strikes up a conversation, he invites Ashlyn to club to him sing. Ashlyn makes it her goal to try to cross off something from the bucket list Gabby left for her, so off to the club she goes. Ashlyn is immediately taken with the beautiful banmoy, Daniel Daniels, especially his music and the theme of his songs. Soon thereafter they have a magical night quoting Shakespeare and getting to know one another.Ashlyn’s first day of school is of things you read and hear about. Kids being pretty awful. But Ashlyn is such a trooper until one of the students purposely bumped into her and the person who comes to save her is none other than Daniel, or whom she comes to find out is her new AP English teacher, Mr. Daniels. And so it begins, the angst.Yes, lots of angst, tears, raw emotions were evoked. Just when things would look good, boom, the author takes me on an another emotional roller coaster. Yet, through the author’s words, I was falling in love with the characters. Even the secondary characters like Ryan, Hailey, Gabby, they pulled at my heart as well as Jace. You will find yourself rooting and yelling and wondering will Ashlyn and Daniel catch a break?I am not big on quoting books, I rarely highlight my passages. I found myself highlighting quite a bit during my read, but you need to experience the feels, the tears, the smiles that I felt during my read. This is my first time reading a Brittainy C. Cherry novel and to say she has a fan in me, is probably not saying anything new. So thank you Ms. Cherry for the fresh new tears and smile you have given me.

Beautiful. Breathtaking. Brilliant.
Meet Ashlyn Jennings. Her mother didn’t love her. Her father left her when she was a child. Her sister was the only one got. But then she died when cancer took over. She’s got no one else now.Meet Daniel Daniels. His brother was involved with gangs and drugs. His mother died in the arms of those thugs. His father succumbed to death next. Then his girlfriend died after a car accident. He’s got no one else now. Then she saw him. Standing from a distance. Inside a train. He had the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever seen. And in those deep blue eyes, she drowned with his voice, his music, his passion, his life.He couldn’t forget her. He found her reading a Shakespeare book inside a train. Her gorgeous green eyes captivated him. And in those soulful green eyes, he fell into the deep abyss of her life, her books, her intelligence, her life.Little did they knew that they were bound to see each other again. In school. He was the teacher. She was the student. They both had miserable lives. They both lost the ones they love. They were both hurting and trying to move on. When they met, their worlds collide. The world couldn’t have been more unfair. The world couldn’t have come at a swell time.I don’t know why, but everytime I read a book that involves musicians and family drama, I am easily reminded of Colleen Hoover’s Maybe Someday. And when I encounter a book fulfilling bucket lists, A Walk to Remember immediately comes to my mind. These books happened to be my Top 2 Favorite Books of all time. But now, after Loving Mr. Daniels, I think I can safely declare that this is going to be the best book I’ve read in 2015 and one that I would never forget in a long time. Maybe this would be my Top 3!I loved everything in this book. From the characters, to the tragedies, to the bucket list, to the Shakespearean quotes, to the music and lyrics, to the gut-wrenching emotions, to the forbidden love affair, to the oh-so-sweet moments to the break-ups, to the real-life family drama.I think Brittainy Cherry is meant to write this book. I applaud her for effortlessly making me cry. I love a good book that always make me cry. As in a really ugly cry. The kind of cry that would need a lot of hankies or rolls of tissues. The kind of cry that will leave you sobbing, breathless, sniffing and crying all over again. I immediately got lost in Ms. Cherry’s world, and I had a hard time finding the way out. Loving Mr. Daniels is totally worth pouring one’s heart out. Now, I’m going to read Art & Soul, Ms. Cherry’s other blockbuster novel, in the next few days. I can’t wait!

a breathtaking, sometimes overwhelming, complex and powerful story.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. This is not your typical student/ teacher romance. It is so much more than a taboo read. It is gut-wrenching in its stark portrayal of the complexities of life. It tackles the damage of drug abuse and homophobia. Most importantly, it deals with the people left behind after a loved one dies. The profound effect it has. There is the loss through ill health, accident, murder and most tragic the loss of a young life to suicide. At its core, this book is about two people helping each other come to terms with loss and growing together. Their love is pure and sweet. This story takes us through first love, sibling bonds, new friendships, coming of age, discovering oneself and healing. Loving Mr Daniels is a breathtaking, sometimes overwhelming, complex and powerful story. This is a story that will remain with you long after you've closed the book. I heartily recommend reading this and have a box of tissues at the ready.
