Turtle Kalimba Finger Thumb Piano Mbira Karimba 7 Keys Wood

This product is cute and fun, but I did not understand before purchasing that it does not play a do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do scale. The seven "keys" are simply lower the longer they are and higher the shorter. I think it's for that reason that my son does not spend a lot of time playing with it. He is a music student who likes concrete understanding of which notes are where, which doesn't really happen here. Still, it's a well-made, fun novelty item, and hacks like me enjoy making pretty little noises on it.

The first one I ordered has gouges in the wood on a flipper and several underneath. The bars holding the keys is very off centered and is gouged by the end of the keys. I ordered another to replace this one thinking it was a fluke…..nope, this one is even more off centered. Less gouges on the bottom, but still has a few. The idea of the design is beautiful, but the execution is dismal.

The item showed up with one small defect I'll be trying to contact the seller about and try to get fixed up. It still sounds and works great.

Our 10 yr old son loves music and turtles, it's so relaxing to watch him play this. It transports him to another creative land. Its beautiful as well. Very ancient looking, has a lot of character.
