I have no idea. You would need a chemist to answer that question. Good question though. I have always been concerned about ceramics from Mexico being made and fired correctly. China of Vietnam might be OK as they probably have higher industrial standards. I would not drink anything acidic like lemonade out of a mug like this as it could leach hazardous materials, but hot coffee once a day seems reasonable for an adult. Something is going to kill you so you might as well pick something fun or someone pretty.

Q: How do you clean the inside of your mug with the hollow handle that allows liquids inside?

I have my daughter only use it for non-cream based drinks and we use the dishwasher for cleaning.

Q: Is this microwave safe?

I’ve had mine 3 years now and wash it in the dishwasher. Love the cup!
