Great set! Heavy, so it doesn’t scoot away while grinding. The bottom of the bowl inside is rounded just right and the sides are curved for lots of grinding space. The polished granite looks nice sitting out on my counter too.

I always wanted one of these, and it's a great tool for even irritating solutions, such as when brown sugar clumps up, but other recipes call for one of these, and it's just fun to use. Great conversation piece in my kitchen as well

This is an excellent, very sturdy mortar and pestle set. It is a lot heavier than I thought it would be, which actually makes it easier to use without it slipping. It's also a great size and actually a little larger than I needed, so that is an unexpected bonus. The pestle itself is very comfortable in the hand. I use it mostly to turn herbs into powder or powders into finer powders and it does the job perfectly. I've had it for a few months now and have found it easy to clean and so far it has no chips. Great value for money.

It's probably a little smaller than it should be, and I really need some way to hold it down unless I want to shake the whole thing it's sitting on. But I will admit some days it feels rather heavy and also it took me a while to start getting used to the processes. Anyway, having run out of acceptable sunflower powder products it was nice that this has enabled me to make my own daily. I'm also using it to grind up other things now like mustard and hemp.

I bought this to replace a smaller stone molcajete that I had because I wanted a larger capacity and different material. I also wanted something less porous and/or a darker color, so that it wouldn’t be discolored by different chilies, spices, etc. Cast iron seemed like a good option, and this has worked well for me so far.Pros:-Feels heavy and durable-Effective for a wide range of ingredients-Doesn’t stain/discolor over time-Deep enough to avoid splashes/spills-No risk of stone “grit” in your foodCons-Not dishwasher safe-Cast iron requires maintenanceI have used this with single ingredients (spices/herbs, dried chilies, etc.) as well as mixtures (ex. garlic, jalapeno, cilantro, tomato, avocado for guacamole). For the latter, it’s nice that you can use another utensil to mix/stir after grinding and not worry about scratches or damage. You can also heat it safely, if you want to smoke or roast your spices.But it’s important to note that you will need to maintain the cast iron to keep the protective seasoning intact. I clean mine with hot water, dry thoroughly, and then rub with a bit of oil. Occasional heat should also help to maintain the seasoning. Don't soak it or leave it wet after use.Notes for gifting: It comes snugly packaged in a box that does not directly reveal the contents (just the brand name). The mortar and pestle are wrapped separately inside to prevent damage in shipping. The box is plain cardboard (not laminated, no color/images, etc.) and there are no instructions or documentation inside.
